Most people believe rice, potatoes, pasta, oats, and bread affect the body exactly the same way every time they eat them, but cooking and refrigerating these carbohydrates can change part of their starch through a process called retrogradation. As the food cools for several hours or overnight, some of the starch becomes resistant starch, making it harder for digestive enzymes to break down rapidly into glucose. Instead, part of it travels into the colon, where beneficial bacteria ferment it and produce butyrate, an important short-chain fatty acid that nourishes the cells lining the colon, supports the intestinal barrier, and helps regulate immune and inflammatory activity. This process may also produce a steadier blood-sugar response, improve satisfaction after eating, reduce the usable calories absorbed from the resistant portion, and support weight control when combined with sensible portions and a healthy lifestyle. In this video, you will learn which carbohydrates can be cooked and refrigerated, how long to cool them, whether reheating destroys the resistant starch, how to store rice safely, and how to combine these foods with protein, vegetables, healthy fats, and vinegar or lemon for an even healthier metabolic response. Refrigeration does not eliminate all the carbohydrates or calories, but it can change how part of that starch behaves inside your digestive system. Sometimes improving your health is not only about what you eat—it is also about how you prepare, refrigerate, and reheat it.

You may wash your hands correctly and still put germs right back onto them within seconds. Faucet handles, restroom doors, damp towels, cell phones, shopping carts, gas pumps, menus, and self-checkout screens are touched repeatedly throughout the day. In this video, Dr. Alan Mandell explains how clean hands can become recontaminated, why touching your eyes, nose, or mouth matters, and the simple public-restroom habit that can reduce unnecessary exposure. Proper handwashing means using soap, scrubbing every surface for at least 20 seconds, cleaning around the thumbs, fingertips, fingernails, and between the fingers, then drying completely. This is not about fearing every germ—it is about protecting your hands after they are clean, especially before eating, during cold and flu season, while traveling, and whenever someone around you is sick. Share this important reminder with your family and friends.
