What happens when an epic motorcycle adventure refuses to go according to plan?
In Part 2 of our Motor Femmes conversation with legendary long-distance rider Wendy Crockett, we dive into the extraordinary journey behind Pushing Miles: A Chronicle of Motorcycles, Mayhem and Metal, written with fellow rider Ian McPhee.
The ride had it all: serious medical emergencies, hospital stays, blown tires, mechanical failures, brutal weather, broken motorcycle parts, unexpected wildlife encounters, and moments when continuing seemed nearly impossible. Yet Wendy and Ian kept finding a way forward.
Wendy shares the resilience, problem-solving, humor, and sheer determination it took to keep riding when almost everything that could go wrong did. Along the way, strangers stepped in to help, setbacks became stories, and what Wendy describes as “stumble recovery” ultimately became a Guinness World Record.
We also talk about motorcycle safety, picking up a fallen bike, surviving extreme weather on two wheels, traveling long distances, and why you don't need the perfect motorcycle—or anyone else's permission—to start your own adventure.
Wendy's message is simple: Get out there and do it.
If your motorcycle is mechanically sound and you're happy riding it, there's a whole world waiting to be explored.
