The destruction of Jerusalem in AD 70 fulfilled God’s covenant warnings in Deuteronomy 28, where blessings for obedience and curses for disobedience were outlined, culminating in national devastation if Israel turned away from Him. This judgment marked the end of the Old Covenant era, as God transitioned to the New Covenant, where His promises are fulfilled in Christ and His church.

“wars and rumors of wars” in Matthew 24:6-7 refer to the political upheavals and conflicts leading up to the destruction of Jerusalem in AD 70, including the Jewish-Roman War and regional unrest in the Roman Empire. These events fulfilled Jesus’ prophecy as part of the judgment on Israel, marking the end of the Old Covenant age.

God destroyed Jerusalem in 70 AD as a judgment for the nation’s rejection of Jesus as the Messiah and their persistent rebellion against His covenant. This event fulfilled prophetic warnings and marked the end of the old covenant system, paving the way for the new covenant through Christ.

Revelation primarily unfolded in the generation of Jesus’ contemporaries because He explicitly stated in Matthew 24:34, “Truly, I say to you, this generation will not pass away until all these things take place,” affirming the fulfillment of prophetic events within that time frame. This aligns with the Partial Preterist view, which interprets much of Revelation as addressing the destruction of Jerusalem in AD 70.

In this episode, I go through Matthew 16 and Matthew 23 and Matthew 24 where Jesus makes it abundantly clear that all the destruction of Jerusalem would happen in that generation, and they would witness it to the full extent of God’s wrath.
