Peter warns that there will be friction between the culture around us and the true believer. Every believer needs to be ready for this. When asked about their faith or challenged in their beliefs every follower of Christ needs to be prepared to answer wisely and intelligently through the practice of apologetics.

What was the Apostle Peter's Christianity like? What were some of the things about his theology that we need in ours? What did he think about Scripture? What did he think about truth?

Last week we looked at trials verses temptations. This week we look at how to handle trials when they come.

After his introduction, Peter begins by writing that Christianity may not be easy. Though the believer is overjoyed at the assurance of heaven, yet still, he may experience different kinds of trials in this life. These will come in order to prove his belief genuine to the glory of God. 

There are two sides two every trial. On the one hand, God is seeking to prove the believer's faith genuine. On the other, Satan is tempting the believer in the hopes of turning him against God. 

Would Peter be writing this letter to me? The answer depends on my response to four basic Gospel-Oriented questions that can be drawn from Peter's introduction. If I can't answer "Yes" to these four questions nothing else Peter teaches later in the letter can apply to me.
