Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon Weekend runners raised more than a million dollars for charity in 2017 – by running on charity teams, undertaking individual fundraising efforts, or supporting Twin Cities In Motion’s charity partners. 

In this episode, you’ll meet two members of the Twin Cities charity running community: Dave Boese, a Plymouth resident who has singlehandedly raised more than $21,000 for a Mexican youth charity, and Brady Gervais, who leads Children’s Minnesota’s charity running program, Team Superstars.

Fundraising runners are vital members of the running community – they’re people who make the greater community and the world a better place. Raising money for a cause close to one’s heart isn’t difficult, is deeply fulfilling, and makes what can seem like a selfish activity radiate good across the community and provide additional satisfaction.

In 2008, Dan Morse began a running program for clients at Minnesota Adult and Teen Challenge, a Minneapolis-based drug and alcohol treatment center. In the years since, more than 700 men have participated in Morse's volunteer effort, meeting twice a week at 5 a.m. to run. Regular attendance is rewarded with opportunities to compete, and Teen Challenge runners regularly compete in and volunteer at Twin Cities In Motion events.

On this episode, Teen Challenge legal liaison and former client Kevin Joyce and Jeff Drexler, a current MnTC client, join Morse to talk about how running and Morse's program have helped them in their recovery from addiction.

Mankato's Molly Ambrose finished her first marathon at this year's race, earning a finish line embrace from her mother-in-law and sister-in-law who finished with her.
