Movie Chumps episodes

  • Episode 147: Space Camp (1986)
A big week for movie and TV fans. We get an instant classic in episdoe 3 of The Last of Us, before
getting James Gunn's 10-year plan for the DC Universe. Then we leap into the stratusphere with 1986's Space Camp, joined by the illustrious NASA/space guru Mike Pagano. The Challenger tragedy looms large here, but not enough to wipe out a cozy, family-friendly film with a ton of charismatic performances. Joaquin Phoenix's debute. Kate Capshaw. Tate Donovan. Kelly Preston. Lea Thompson. PLUS: Corrye takes a battle ax to the Marilyn Monroe movie on Netflix (but not Ana de Armas), and Mike recommends...your mother's basement?!

  • Episode 146: Miami Vice (2006)
Michael Mann's Miami Vice reboot is the center of the Chumps' attention this week. Corrye goes into this film cold; Luke comes in with some of the TV show baggage and expectations. The Chumps take a hatchet to the three villains, and the lack of exposition, while throwing flowers on plenty: the sizzling hot Colin Farrell/Gong Li romance, the tension-packed action scenes, mojitos in Havana, and
Michael Mann's realisim. PLUS: the highlights from episode 2 of The Last of Us including that "kiss" scene. AND: how "recency bias" may have totally screwed one of the Chumps' favorite movies for the Oscars this year.

  • Episode 145: Collateral
Tom Cruise and Jamie Foxx enter the Michael Mann universe as we continue to celebrate the Month of Mannuary. Luke & Corrye explore the sizzling hot chemistry between Foxx and Jada Pinkett Smith; what Cruise does different here than in past blockbusters; the early Jason Statham & Javier Bardem appearances; the nights shots; the HD digital camera shots; and that riveting square-off in the jazz club. PLUS: Our theories on why Mark Hamill had a quiet film career after Star Wars, and Corrye's favorite "In Living Color" skits. AND: The Last of Us: Pedro Pascal & Bella Ramsey get upstaged in the stellar 1st episode.

  • Episode 144: Thief
We continue the month of Mannuary with Michael Mann's first big-screen picture, 1981's Thief. We're talking James Caan, the lovable (until he's not) Robert Prosky, Tangerine Dream's awful score (yeah, we said it), and the stellar diner scene with Tuesday Weld. Plus: Corrye's year in review from 2022, which was neck-deep in bangers. We've also discovered an old school Pizza Hut restaurant (like, an actual hut from the '80s). And...is Coppola's new film truly a disaster behind the scenes? And for dessert: James Caan's one line that Luke SWEARS he tried on his wife when they were dating.

  • Episode 143: Heat
Show us a better crime saga, and we'll show you a $4 bill. Luke & Corrye have been referencing Heat for years; now they finally tackle it. The Michael Mann masterpiece not only kicks off Season 4 of Movie Chumps, it kicks off the month of Manuary - as we break down a slew of his popular films (except Last of the Mohicans. Already did that one). Here, we cover a bunch: Waingro, the diner scene, Val Kilmer being under-utilized, the heists, cinematography specifics, Los Angeles as a backdrop, and a barrage of Pacino aka Vincent Hanna impressions.

  • Episode 142: The Banshees of Inisherin and Glass Onion
A double feature to help kick our 3rd season to the curb! One's got "Oscar bait" written all over it,
the other is ALREADY begging for an army of sequels. Hear the delight pour out of Luke & Corrye as they explore the beauty, comedy, and tragedy of The Banshees of Inisherin. Then it's off to a schmuck
billionaire's island to solve some mysteries with Glass Onion. There was almost too much nuance and
douchebaggery to keep up with in this one! PLUS: a sneak peak for what's in store for our movie
    slate in 2023!

  • Episode 141: No Time to Die
Goodbye, Daniel Craig. So many memories, so little time with ya. The Chumps whip out the magnifying glass to explore: Ana de Armas stealing the show; Rami Malek's Safin; Lashana Lynch's swagger; Billie Eilish's theme & credits; the one good thing about Bond dying (regarding his daughter); and much more. PLUS: Corrye goes Rambo on Matt Ryan being on the wrong end of a historic comeback, and Luke touts a bathroom product in our weekly RECOMMENDATIONS segment.

  • Episode 140: Skyfall
Put simply: when it comes to James Bond, Skyfall just might be the GOAT. Luke & Corrye make the case. From Roger Deakins' killer cinematography to Javier Bardem pitch-perfect Silva, the Chumps pluck out the best of this 3rd installment in the Daniel Craig Bond saga. We're also talking plenty of DC news in our Headlines segment. ALSO: Forget Avatar 2; James Cameron's best recent quote focuses on why a Terminator film crapped the bed. PLUS: Corrye uses the word "recalcitrant" in the pod, and has the stones to recommend the gelato at a local laser tag business.

  • Episode 139: Casino Royale
Sean Connery may be the BEST James Bond. But let's be honest: Daniel Craig's our favorite. Probably yours, too. The Chumps have a romp exploring this dynamite stick of a flick: Martin Campbell's memorable action sequences, the breathtakingly gorgeous Vesper and Solange, and Madds Mikkelsen doing Madds Mikkelsen things. There's a beautiful scene in this film...that gets absolutely ruined by a Daniel Craig action that Corrye and Luke are just baffled by. We'll discuss that, along with a world of toothpicks, too much parkour, and a
retrospective on the Nicholas Cage as Superman fiasco.

  • Episode 138: Rocky Balboa
He said he had some stuff in the basement. Boy, did he ever. Rocky Balboa may have peeked as a fighter a long time ago, but the character had plenty of stuff for the 6th film in the franchise. The Chumps highlight everything from the training montage to grown-up Marie to Rocky's restaurant to Paulie taking on the art of painting. Luke complains about Tony "Duke" Evers not getting enough screentime, and both Chumps point out the pros and cons of Antonio Tarver's Mason The Line Dixon's character. PLUS: Corrye has finally dived head-first into a popular TV show and says...it's worth the hype and is "everything you've heard it is."

About Movie Chumps

From the publisher's feed

Luke Mayo, Corrye Cooke and their locker room of oddball buddies over-analyze a wild mix of films. What's profound? What's ridiculous? We like to think of ourselves as the Beyonce of movie podcasts…
