An awesome band that I found on spotify, reached out to, and now have the privilege of having on the show to talk their favorite movie. Chris and Colton chose 1998 classic American History X. A polarizing movie that tackles racism through the eyes of a reformed skin head named Derrick Vineyard, who is played perfectly by Edward Norton. With a supporting cast of Edward Furlong, Beverly D'Angelo, Ethan Suplee, Avery Brooks, and Fairuza Balk, American History X became a cultural phenomenon that opened the door for many conversations regarding race in our country. For the first time ever we’re seeing things I 2 I and talking about a Disney movie. Not just any Disney movie, but Rikk r Treat of the The Writhers favorite one, A Goofy Movie. The 1995 animated cult classic that has stood the test of time and gave us such memories as the perfect cast and Powerline singing nothing but heaters. As far as I know, I sat down and talked with Cam Martin, drummer of Virginia Beach based hardcore band Victim of Suffering, and not a shapeshifting alien from Antartica. That would be rather interesting and ironic though being that Cam's favorite movie is The Thing. John Carpenter's 1982 classic laid a roadmap for one of the best horror stories ever told. Who would have thought a 2004 Micheal Gondry directed indie movie featuring Jim Carey and Kate Winslet doing the opposite of their norms would have garnered two Academy Award nominations? With the help of a star studded supporting cast (Mark Ruffalo, Elijah Wood, Kiersten Dunst, Tom Wilkinson, Jane Adams, and David Cross) it is no surprise to see why Eternal Sunshine has done so well as it has, and has taken the mantle of favorite movie for so many people. We're on a mission from God! That mission is to teach the world about my friend James Cross of Vermont based emo band NRVS. James and I had one of the most interesting conversations about music, the industry, and of course his favorite movie. The 1980 John Landis music comedy, The Blues Brothers. Starring John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd as the eponymous Blues Brothers, The Blues Brothers follows the two brothers on their way to put the band back together and raise some money to save the orphanage they were raised in. Today we get another fun episode of Movie Night With Bands featuring my good friend Shane Emery of Connecticut based pop punk outfit Say What You Will and I talking about his favorite movie, Forrest Gump. Another Robert Zemeicks classic starring Tom Hanks as the titular Forrest Gump, a man with a below average IQ who is present for some of the best and worst moments of American and world history. With a supporting cast of Robin Wright as Jenny, Gary Sinise as Lt. Dan, Mykelti Williamson ad Bubba, and Sally Field as forrest's mother, Forrest Gump made its way to the Oscar podium to accept 6 awards. Back in the saddle this week with Mike McInnes who is the guitarist of Pittsburgh based pop punk band Old Neon. Mike reached out to me a few weeks back about coming onto the show and I'm excited to finally have him on to talk about his favorite movie, The Rocketeer. This 1991 Disney/Touchstone produced super hero movie directed by Joe Johnston (Jumanji, Captain America: the first Avenger) tells the story of Cliff Secord, a struggling stunt pilot who discovers a rocket pack and goes on to become the eponymous Rocketeer. Starring Billy Campbell as Secord, Jennifer Connelly, Alan Arkin, Timothy Dalton (then the current James Bond) and Paul Sorvino (fresh off Goodfellas and Dick Tracy) it's hard to believe that Disney worried that there wasn't enough star power behind this film. I think it is only fitting that I talk with my best friend who I'm in a band with about movie about best friends in a band. Damien Chazelle's (Whiplash/First Man/Babylon) 2016 six time oscar winning (including best director for Chazelle) La La Land says I love you to golden age Hollywood and classic cinema in a way that so many have only tried to do. Starring Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone, La La Land danced its way into today's guest's heart and took the mantle of favorite movie. Fellow musician and cinephile Patrick Nadeau of Breton and Real Talk has deemed this modern classic his favorite and had plenty to say as to why.
