The movie seeks to provide a full portrait of this complex man and illuminate what drove him to his dark decision to hang himself. Acclaimed documentary filmmaker Morgan Neville, who also made the MOVIEGUIDE® Award-winning movie on Mr. Rogers, WON’T YOU BE MY NEIGHBOR?, directs the movie.

SUMMER OF SOUL is a music documentary about the Harlem Cultural Festival in 1969, which was a series of musical concerts taking place over several weekends in New York City. The festival featured performances by major black soul, pop and jazz stars of the time. The movie intercuts some of the major performances with interviews of some of the artists and attendees looking back on the festival and what it meant to them. “It wasn’t just about the music,” singer Gladys Knight recalls. “We wanted progress.”

THE SPARKS BROTHERS is a documentary recounting the history of the band Sparks. Sparks has released 25 albums in 50 years. Led by the brother duo of Russell and Ron Mael, it’s survived an unbelievable rollercoaster ride of ups and downs. The movie asks how a band can be both highly acclaimed by critics and musicians and yet be vastly underrated by the public. To answer this question, it uses interviews with dozens of celebrities including the singer Beck, “Weird Al” Yankovic and star bassist Flea. The interviews show viewers the high esteem that the music industry has for Sparks. The movie uses a stream of archival footage and performance imagery to bring its story to life.

PIG is an independent drama with thriller qualities. It stars a bearded Nicolas Cage as a quiet loner named Robin Feld who lives alone with a beloved foraging pig deep in the Oregon wilderness. One night, some men beat up Robin and steal his pig. Robin enlists the help of a young food dealer named Amir, Robin’s only contact with the outside world. Amir takes Robin to his former cutthroat world of snooty restaurants in Portland. As Robin confronts his past, viewers slowly learn about his past life and what drove him to become a recluse.

SPACE JAM: A NEW LEGACY focuses on NBA legend LeBron James and his son, Dom, who unlike LeBron, is not interested in athletics, but technology. When LeBron takes Dom to hear about a new movie deal with Warner Bros., Dom gets sucked into the “Serververse” where a villain wants revenge on LeBron for disliking his idea. To save Dom, LeBron must play a basketball game with a team capable of helping him win. Enter the Looney Tunes. Will Bugs Bunny and the Looney Tunes gang bring their best effort to help LeBron save Dom?

STUNTMAN is a terrific documentary on Disney Plus about a Hollywood stuntman, Eddie Braun. A devoted husband and father of four, Braun comes from humble beginnings. He gained recognition by doing more intense stunts. Now in his 50s, Braun decides to attempt the late Evel Knievel’s rocket launch across Snake River Canyon. With everyone involved braced for utter failure, will Braun stick the landing?

“Forever and a Dog” is the premiere episode of TURNER AND HOOCH, a new series on Disney Plus based on a 1989 Tom Hanks movie. Scott Turner is a clean-freak police detective in San Francisco who’s obsessed with controlling every aspect of his life. That is, until his sister drops off his late father’s huge slobbering dog, Hooch. After some back and forth with Hooch, Scott realizes Hooch may prove valuable not only to his career, but also to his love life. Things come to a crisis when Scott and his partner, Jessica, take Hooch to a stakeout.

THE TOMORROW WAR is a superb science fiction thriller streaming on Amazon Prime. Chris Pratt stars as Dan Forester, a former soldier and biology expert enjoying life in December 2021 with his wife and 9-year-old daughter. Some soldiers from 2051 suddenly interrupt a World Cup soccer game. They tell the world that future humanity needs help defeating a horde of alien monsters. One year later, humanity is losing the war. Because of his expertise and military experience, Dan is drafted to travel to 2051 to help retrieve 12 lab vials that could mass produce an alien-killing toxin.

I AM ALL GIRLS is a crime drama streaming on Netflix based on true events of human trafficking in South Africa. The movie follows a special crimes investigator, Jodie, whose passion is to bring down a global child sex trafficking syndicate. However, Jodie is willing to go against law enforcement rules to bring the perpetrators to justice. As a result, she’s taken off the case. Jodie forms a bond with a co-worker referred to as Ntombi. SCREENED IN is a short hour-length drama on YouTube that addresses teenage addiction to smartphones and social media. While teenager Peyton Hawthorne celebrates her birthday with two friends, she comes to realize the hold her smartphone has taken over their lives.
