FAR EAST DEEP SOUTH is a beautiful, emotional journey on PBS about one Chinese family’s search for their roots. Baldwin Chiu and brother, Edwin, begin with the assumption that they are first generation Chinese Americans living in San Francisco. However, they find out their Chinese grandfather is buried in Mississippi. This new information leads the Chiu family on a voyage of discovery that will change forever the family they thought they knew. Their journey begins with one question. How did Chinese people end up in segregated Mississippi in the latter part of the 19th Century?

THE TALE OF GENJI: A THOUSAND YEAR ENIGMA is one of many Japanese movies derived from the world’s first novel, written by a woman, Lady Murasaki, who lived in the 10th Century. The tale involves Genji, an exceptionally handsome and intelligent young man born to an imperial consort who didn’t belong to the higher castes. Although the Emperor wants him to become the Crown Prince, his lower status as a commoner means he can’t assume the throne, though he’s allowed to live in the palace. Genji marries Aio, but she refuses to open up to him. So, he pursues a series of affairs. One of his mistresses becomes jealous of his wife.

Based on a true story, PERCY VS. GOLIATH follows one Canadian farmer during the late 1990s in his fight against a major farming organization. Monsanto Canola accuses Percy of using a patented seed for his harvested crops. It becomes clear that Percy is an underdog fighting for his livelihood. As he and his family seek public support for their cause, they fight for farmers everywhere, not only in Canada but also around the world.

THUNDER FORCE is a highly entertaining superhero spoof on Netflix starring the unlikely team of Melissa McCarthy and Octavia Spencer. Melissa plays Lydia, an overweight girl who grows up to be a tough-talking and acting construction worker. Her childhood friend, played by Octavia, is Emily, a smart nerdy girl who’s become a highly successful inventor and industrialist. Lydia visits Emily’s office to invite her to their school reunion. While at Emily’s office, Lydia accidentally injects herself with a serum that gives her super-strength. When Emily also gets superpowers, they team up to form a crime-fighting group called Thunder Force to save Chicago from an evil mayoral candidate.

WALKING WITH HERB is a faith-based comedy about a 65-year-old bank manager who’s lost his faith in God because of his granddaughter’s death. Joe gets a second chance when God gives him an assignment to win an eccentric billionaire’s $300 million golf tournament to be the golf champion of the world. God sends an angel named Herb to help Joe. Being an amateur, Joe must qualify for the world championship tournament by winning one of the top two spots in a qualifying golf tournament. Eventually, Joe must face an angry young golfer who’s upset he must compete against a 65-year-old amateur.

STARTING UP LOVE is a romance airing on UPtv about a young finance executive, Jillian, who inherits her uncle’s mountain cabin. Jillian discovers that she only owns half the cabin, and the other half belongs to Liam, a handyman who’s worked on the building for years. After Jillian fails to secure a promotion, she leaves her venture capitalist company in the city and goes to the cabin to try to sell it. Liam is the complete opposite. He knows everyone in town and wants to turn the cabin into a bed and breakfast. As their two worlds clash, sparks begin to fly. Eventually, Jillian must choose between Liam and the town which has become like her family, or her career.

THE MITCHELLS VS. THE MACHINES is an animated science fiction comedy on Netflix. The quirky daughter, Katie, is accepted at film college, and her father decides the family should drive Katie to college to restore his bond with her. They stop at a dinosaur museum for Katie’s brother to enjoy. At the museum, a bunch of robots arrive and start forcing people into some pods. The Mitchells manage to escape and hide. Will they be able to join together, put aside their differences and quarrels, and save themselves (and the rest of world) from the malevolent robots?

TOM CLANCY’S WITHOUT REMORSE is a military thriller on Amazon Prime loosely based on a 1993 novel by Clancy. Michael B. Jordan plays Navy Seal John Kelly, whose pregnant wife is killed by Russian assassins in retaliation for the death of some Russian soldiers in Syria during a hostage rescue. Three members of the Seal team are also killed, but the government puts a stop to any retaliation, to keep the peace. However, Kelly forces a Russian diplomat to give up the name of the assassin who escaped Kelly’s house. So, the Defense Secretary okays a Navy Seal op to kidnap the assassin in Russia. The mission goes awry, however.

MADE FOR YOU, WITH LOVE follows the story of a wedding gown store owner named Amanda. At a client’s wedding, Amanda meets a wedding photographer named James. James is hired to photograph a magazine cover on Amanda’s dress business. Although Amanda and James have their differences, the two eventually may get to like each other. Will Amanda give James a chance or continue to live a single life?

ATLANTIC CROSSING is one of the most exciting historical television miniseries. Airing on PBS-TV’s MASTERPIECE THEATER, it focuses on the Norwegian royal family trying to save Norway from the Nazi Germany at the beginning of World War II by reaching out to President Roosevelt and King George VI of England. The first two episodes show the Crown Prince and Crown Princess of Norway, Olav and Martha, being separated as the Germans invade Norway. Olav flees to England with his father while Martha flees to America with their children.
