Hey all! Welcome to another episode of Mr. P.'s Tales from the Road! In this edition, we take the long trip out to Long Island, New York to tour one the country’s largest abandoned psychiatric hospitals, the infamous Kings Park Psychiatric Hospital. Once home to thousands of mentally ill patients who saw and experienced unknowable hells at the hand of Twentieth Century mental health treatments (lobotomies, anyone?), this massive complex offered up just a few of its mysteries to us as we explored a small stretch of its vast acreage.  Tales and history abound, so warm up some leftovers from the Fourth of July, pour yourself a cold glass of ice tea, get comfy, listen in and enjoy the show! Thirteen miles of crumbling asphalt, still-intact bridges, two very dark tunnels and rusting, hidden maintenance areas await the intrepid explorer, shedding light on a certain time in American history before the Interstates! A neighborhood that, despite its idyllic streets and family cookouts and kids playing in the backyards, was harboring a hidden and nightmarish secret under the feet of its oblivious inhabitants. This is the story of Love Canal, New York; a tale of toxic waste, industrial shenanigans and the lasting effects of corporate greed gone hog wild upon hundreds of innocent lives in what should have been a slice of the American dream. Tales of this insane story from one of America’s worst ecological and health disasters, our own adventures to the Canal and plenty of history abound, so grab a glass of sweet iced tea, sizzle up a burger or hotdog on the grill, listen in and enjoy the show!
