Rarely does a work of history contain startling implications for the present, but in The People, No Thomas Frank pulls off that explosive effect by showing us that everything we think we know about populism is wrong. Today “populism” is seen as a frightening thing, a term pundits use to describe the racist philosophy of Donald Trump and European extremists. But this is a mistake.

A hateful woman hurled a glass bottle at a Black woman jogging in Queens, video shows, and told her to “go back to Africa n----r," according to a police source.
The 37-year-old victim, who lives in the Woodside neighborhood, did not report the Aug. 17 incident on 53rd Place and Broadway until a friend saw the witness video on social media.
The video released by cops Wednesday shows the suspect sipping from the bottle as she approaches the corner, then suddenly hurl it at a Black woman running by.
“Get out, get the f--k out and go back to Africa, n----r!" the suspect yells, according to the source.
The victim turns around and appears confused, then jumps out of the way to avoid the bottle, the video shows.
The NYPD Hate Crimes Task Force is investigating the incident, police said.

I don't know if this factory is 6 days a week yet.
If not, that means we have a whole other weekend day to do more Wine Cellar programming and we can really bring back that 2015 producion energy.
    Check this one out.
We go further into the violence that right wingers intend to enact at the street level.

The real story of populism is an account of enlightenment and liberation; it is the story of American democracy itself, of its ever-widening promise of a decent life for all. Taking us from the tumultuous 1890s, when the radical left-wing Populist Party―the biggest mass movement in American history―fought Gilded Age plutocrats to the reformers’ great triumphs under Franklin Roosevelt and Harry Truman, Frank reminds us how much we owe to the populist ethos. Frank also shows that elitist groups have reliably detested populism, lashing out at working-class concerns. The anti-populist vituperations by the Washington centrists of today are only the latest expression.
Frank pummels the elites, revisits the movement’s provocative politics, and declares true populism to be the language of promise and optimism. The People, No is a ringing affirmation of a movement that, Frank shows us, is not the problem of our times, but the solution for what ails us.

  • Talk FURIE - It was a Hot Summer
    Hey gang.
    Talk FURIE is back.
William J Jackson and Chelsey Sprengeler post up and go back over most of 2020 with a specific focus on the Summer as that was the last thing Chelsey said on our first episode together.
It was a constructive conversation and good way to carry Wine Cellar Media into the Fall and Winter.
Moving forward, The Wine Cellar will be coming in the day time as I'll be doing factory work in the evening and nights for now.
Thanks for holding it down for us.
Phoenix and I live in the new place now and I'm basically going to be living in the Wine Cellar office.
I have the podcasting gear set up and there's still enough space that I can bring in a little futon or something and essentially be here or in the factory.  A Pod Scientist locked away in my lab, if you will.
