It’s hard to work on something that you continue to ignore and avoid.
You must not be praying enough!
As if the actual symptoms of anxiety—racing heart, sweaty palms, dizziness, trembling, and inner turmoil—aren’t life-hindering enough, many people with anxiety also withstand well-intentioned but hurtful comments from people who don’t truly understand the nature of the disorder, and how serious it really is. Hint: It goes way beyond just "being worried. " https://www.realsimple.com/health/anxiety-what-not-to-say
Anxiety disorders are among the most common mental illnesses in America; over 21% of adults (42.5 million) are affected by these debilitating illnesses each year. (MHA, 2021)
So why do so many of us struggling with anxiety keep it a secret?
We are made to feel ashamed, called weak minded, looked at differently, told that we must be doing something wrong, judged, ignored, talked about………..The list can go on and on.
My first experience with having an anxiety attack happened 10 years ago. As a young wife, mother, student, employee etc. I had so many things going on at once and one day I just started experiencing this indescribable feeling. My heart started racing, my face started trembling and my hands were sweating. I thought that I was having an asthma attack but my inhaler just didn’t seem to be helping. I drove myself to urgent care and after hours of tests, x rays and breathing treatments the doctor started talking to me about anxiety symptoms and asking me about what was going on in my life. I hid the medication given to me because I was afraid of the comments that I would hear.
The more that I hid and tried to ignore my anxiety the worse it became.
Once I took action my symptoms started to decrease. Once I learned and educated myself on the disorder I was able to take charge of my mental health and physical health.
There is help out there and you do not have to hide.
Lifestyle Changes: Research shows exercise, meditation, and yoga can all improve mood and overall well being. Research also shows the importance of nutrition and certain supplements in supporting brain and mood. Other things like taking time to take care of yourself, trying activities you enjoy, and spending time with people or environments where you feel supported can help as well.
