Jussie Smollett was sentenced in 2022 to 150 days in jail plus 30 months of felony probation after being convicted of disorderly conduct for filing false police reports. He was also ordered to pay restitution of more than $120,000, plus an additional fine. Smollett had been an actor in the Fox series Empire. In a 2022 article, CNN wrote that "after the judge announced his sentence, Smollett lowered his face mask and said he was innocent. 'Your honor, I respect you and I respect the jury, but I did not do this,' the actor told the judge, before turning to the court. 'And I am not suicidal. And if anything happens to me when I go in there, I did not do it to myself. And you must all know that.'" So, he has now filed an appeal. I guess he's still claiming that he's innocent.
