Gary is an MS'er from the state of Louisiana that was working in retail when he started to get dizzy, slurring his words and shaking. Gary's fiancé became concerned so he made an appointment with his doctor and was referred to a neurologist. After going through a lumbar puncture and MRI's Gary was diagnosed with with RRMS at the age of 35. Two years later Gary became worse with symptoms, speaking and shaking, and was re-diagnosed with PPMS and Gary also suffers from dysarthria, which is a speech disorder caused by MS.
Gary talks about his struggle getting approved for disability and how important family support is with someone going through life changing events. We also talk about Gary's amazing wife who completely understands Gary's diagnoses because she herself is a warrior battling Huntington's Disease.
We talk about mental health, meditation, exercise and how we handle pain by using medical marijuana. Gary uses his love for books and movies to help keep his mind occupied. Gary still works part time working with individuals in nursing homes to help them.
Gary is an unbelievable MS WARRIOR that is so positive and finds good in everything that has happened in his life. Thank you Gary for helping people understand MS better and what its like to be an MS WARRIOR.
