On this episode of Control Room, Ryan and I go in-depth on my first set of MTG, War of the Spark. Though pigeon-holed as a "poor" set by a lot of Magic players, I still run a ton of cards from this set in my decks to this day and swear by their constant utility and value. Hopefully you'll learn a lot more about how underrated this set actually is and how it can be used to teach new players.

ItsDemonyk joins the podcast for a Lightning Build around, you guessed it, a Demon! Varragoth allows you to tutor for a card and place it atop your library with its Boast ability while also having Deathtouch! This episode focuses on maximizing the Boast trigger in a Voltron-style build while also using other Demons to boost your board while simultaneously taking resources away from your opponents.

On this episode of Control Room, Ryan and I return to 2007/2008 to talk about the Lorwyn/Shadowmoor block. Featuring tons of tribal support for Faeries, Goblins, Kithkin, and other tribes, the block has been forgotten by a lot of players. Ryan explains how his own playing experience was shaped in part by these sets, and we explore the various mechanics of each set in the block and some of the cards we like. I use examples of a few cards I use from the sets in my Selenia, Dark Angel deck (which is mentioned in an earlier episode named "Selenia and Me".

Modern Horizons 2 is just around the corner, so that means it's almost time for Preview Season! MonoWhiteBorder joins the show to discuss various aspects of Mark Rosewater's Tumblr post (found here on 5-18-21), including what cards we are excited to see, as well as to identify any cards that we believe could be banned in any format. And there is a lot of talk about MTG story/Vorthos aspects as well, so this is a must-listen before Preview Season begins!

On today's episode of the White in MTG is GOOD, Actually, series, CoachJRo joins me to talk about one of my new favorite cards - Secret Rendezvous. It allows you to draw THREE cards for THREE mana as long as target opponent also draws three cards. There are tons of political implications stapled to this card, which is what makes it so good!

On today's episode of White in MTG is GOOD, Actually, CoachJRo joins me to discuss our builds of 20-card JumpStart-like packs for mono White, in which we include many of the core tenants of the color including +1 counters, enchantments, and pump effects to get our attackers through. We found that we shared some of the same opinions on the pack builds but also had some key differences in our approach to the concept.

On today's episode of the podcast, DJ Johnson joins me to discuss the COMBAT STEP (hide your eyes, combo players!) and how we enjoy using combat (or forced combat) as a way to win games or at least keep games interesting. We both personally enjoy using combat as a viable win condition but have found multiple ways to build around this sort of strategy.
