We're back for Part 2 of our deep dive into Paul's journeys — and this time, we're getting into the real details of his first missionary journey with Barnabas through the Galatian region (Acts 13–14). If you haven't listened to Part 1 yet, go back and start there — it lays a powerful foundation for everything we cover here.

We open by talking about three things that transformed how we read and understand the scriptures: reading the Bible in large quantities and in its full context, mirror reading (looking at both the historical backdrop and the side-by-side reading of Paul's letters alongside the Book of Acts), and Neil's leadership development framework that shows us how Paul grew through each journey.

One of the most mind-blowing moments of this conversation is realizing that Acts 9 through Acts 15 — just six chapters — actually covers 14 to 15 years of Paul's life. So much happened in Damascus, Tarsus, and Jerusalem before Paul ever arrived in Antioch. And Paul wasn't sitting around waiting — he was in synagogues, proclaiming Christ, being beaten, and being restored.

Reflective Questions for Your First Journey:

Wherever you are in your faith walk, these questions are worth sitting with — especially if you're in a season of starting something new or feeling scattered in your ministry:

• Have you found yourself in a hurry to serve God, ticking boxes instead of growing people?

• Are you working on a wide scale with great diversity, but no real focus?

• Do people notice how good you are at the job — and is that becoming about you instead of Jesus?

• Is delegation hard for you? Do you struggle to trust others to do the work?

• Are the results of your work more important to you than the process of developing people?

The first journey is probably the least effective journey of our lives — but it's also the most necessary. It's where we gain the practical know-how that will later be passed on to others. Start where you are. Be faithful with the relationships God has already given you. That's where the kingdom starts — and it spreads from there.
