MHG EP 51: Let’s Talk Sea of Thieves and Private Matches in Destiny

Time to jump into another great year of podcasting! We’ve all dried our eyes and finished celebrating for now. First on the table is Microsoft’s “family of consoles”.

Aaron Greenberg, Head of Xbox Games Marketing, has stated that the future will see the elimination of generational consoles at last. What can we expect as gamers?

Through a live broadcast from Germany’s biggest gaming convention, Gamescom, Bungie let us know that, yes… Private matches are coming. The Mules talk about the ups and downs of Destiny joining the ranks of other eSports titles, and how this will affect the future of Destiny and Destiny 2.

Gamescom also brought us many impressions from gamers thrilled to try out the booty-looting pirate game, Sea of Thieves. We recently spent some time with Joe Neate, Executive Producer of Rare’s new title, as well as content creator and real-life pirate, Abstractacas (Check out episode 47). Since then, the hype surrounding Sea of Thieves has only been increasing. We discuss some of the news and factoids derived from the Rare developers’ live stream at Gamescom.

MHG EP 49: Destiny - Rise of Wood

Episode forty-nine. Forty-nine! Thanks for sticking with us, everybody. In this episode, we’ll be revisiting the game that we started this little podcast to talk about: Destiny.

First off, the Mules veer away from games to discuss the console itself: Xbox One and the new Xbox One S. Cortana’s voice has graced our headphones again, but this time she’s not too busy helping Master Chief to tell us about the weather. Thaddeus shares some of his thoughts on the book, Ready Player One, as well as the new Batman title from Telltale Games.

Lord Saladin has removed his helmet and means serious business. This newfound call to action has Destiny players buzzing with anticipation, and your hosts are no different (though no less salty). We’re digging in with iron determination, and dissecting the various improvements coming to the game. We do our best to avoid big spoilers, but you are going to learn about the new expansion. In a surprising turn of events, one of the Mules gets angry about Thorn (What a twist!).

Your #wordonthetweet questions further poke and prod at Destiny’s final transformation, as well as Nintendo, emulators, and the Xbox One.

All in all, we’re excited to play the hell out of Destiny’s latest expansion, The Rise of Iron, and look into the distance with fear and hope for the future of Bungie’s creation.

The Mules pick his brain on several facets of Sea of Thieves including its open-world, trading, mutiny, and backstabbing.

Our other hornswaggling guest is Abstractacas, host of the Sea of Thieves’ themed podcast, Pirate Port Radio. Abstractacas tells us about being invited to Rare studios to test out Sea of Thieves. Further, he answers more questions we have about the game and gushes on what it was like to see himself in an E3 trailer.

MHG EP 46: Pokémon GO Can’t Stop!

Now that Overwatch has a competitive play mode, The Mules dig in to what clicks and what still feels lacking in Blizzard’s eSports oriented title. Also, a new character is seemingly confirmed to be hitting the game soon. How does a support sniper fit into the mix?

Next up: We knew Commander Shepard wasn’t going to have much to do with Mass Effect Andromeda, but now we’ve found out that nothing from the previous titles really affects our new tale. MHG EP 44: MHG Does E3, New Xboxes, and Space Karate

Recorded on Thursday, June 16, 2016.

E3 has come and gone! Congratulations to those of our friends and contributors who were lucky enough to attend. A slew of game trailers, teasers, announcements, and terrible clothing assaulted our senses this week. The Mules are ready to dig in.

EA showcased their typical Madden and FIFA madness, but also showed us some new media from Mass Effect Andromeda and an upcoming Star Wars title. Battlefield 1 takes us back to the original World War, while Star Wars Battlefront is due to receive some much needed attention.

Bethesda seems to be jumping on the remastering bandwagon as Skyrim will soon be brought back for the Xbox One and PS4. Quake Champions and Doom are discussed as well.

Microsoft produced a relatively strong presentation this year, finally unveiling the rumored (leaked) Xbox One S (slim) and Project Scorpio. How many teraflops? A lot. Gears of War returns with another Fenix family affair. Recore dazzles us with dynamically daring deeds in a dusty dessert. Sea of Thieves sells us all on scurvy much faster than we would have liked to admit.

Ubisoft announced that they are making more movies. Should they? They also finally decided to break their games-with-snow streak, showing an obviously scripted gameplay teaser of Ghost Recon Wildlands. For Honor and Watchdogs 2 also had decent screen time.

Don’t worry, we didn’t forget about Playstation’s presser. There are a couple of upcoming games that have the Mules googling PS4 prices.
