  • Episode 0: Introduction of the MultiMemo Project

The episode introduces the MultiMemo project, funded by the European Commission, and elaborates on the contested notion of ‘multidirectional memory’. This idea suggests that different historical events and traumas, like the Holocaust and colonialism, can coexist and enrich each other’s remembrance, rather than compete. While proponents see this as a way to encourage dialogue between diverse memories, critics argue that it risks diluting the uniqueness of events like the Holocaust by placing them alongside other atrocities. This concern, shared by scholars like Dan Diner and Yehuda Bauer, emphasizes the need to recognize the distinctiveness of certain historical traumas without diminishing their significance.
