Mumbrellacast: Solving adland’s drinking problem, Optus takes no prisoners, and who won the TV year?

Listen Later

It’s that time of year when the industry is in full party swing, while at the same time, deadlines are looming and pitches are still being won and lost. It’s a time when many of us are feeling burnt out, tired, and counting down the days to the holidays.
But should we really be feeling this exhausted? Is it normal to feel this way? And is there anything we can do about it? Joining us on the Mumbrellacast this week to help answer those tricky questions is a panel of some of Australia’s leading names in the mental health and wellness space: Everymind’s Jaelea Skehan, Never Not Creative’s Andy Wright, UnLtd’s Chris Freel, and WPP AUNZ’s Fleur Marks (29:28).
Listen in as we discuss everything from the importance of job satisfaction, training our leaders to take care of themselves, and keeping a hold on things when deadlines and the drinks trolley are looming.

Optus takes no prisoners (06:09)
Who really won the 2018 TV ratings? (14:01)
Mumbrella turns Ten (23:04)
In the news chat this week, we cover the latest twist on the Nine and Fairfax merger road, as Nine names its new leadership team, along with the announcement that a relatively low number of 92 people will lose their jobs.
Plus, the TV ratings period has officially ended for the year – with Seven and Nine both able to claim victories. But who was the real winner?
And Optus released the next ad in its series from director Steve Rogers this week. It appeared to equate a telco contract with jail… a bold strategy, to say the least. Listen in as we share our thoughts on the ad.
Finally, Mumbrella turns Ten this week. By the time you hear this episode, we’ll either be at – or recovering from – our Mumbrella Next event in Sydney, celebrating the fresh talent who came into the industry over the last ten years.
In this week’s episode, Tim takes a trip down memory lane and considers what has changed in the ten years he’s been reporting on the media and marketing industry.
