Terminamos el repaso a los homenajeados en el Salón de la Fama de la Transglobal World Music Chart (Transglobal World Music Hall of Fame)  y continuamos con más premios y reconocimientos, como la convocatoria Afro Pepites, de la cual el mundófono Juan Antonio ha formado parte del comité de selección, o el nombramiento de los nuevos miembros honoríficos del Claustro Universitario de las Artes de la Universidad de Alcalá,  a tres de los cuales, Jorge Pardo, Carles Benavent y Rubem Dantas, escuchamos en el legendario sexteto de Paco de Lucía. Un programa que nos transporta por distantes rincones del mundo (Níger, España, China y las tierras nórdicas de los samis) y en el que terminamos surcando los mares del norte de Europa, con novedades que nos llevan desde Estonia a Bélgica.

We conclude our overview of the honourees in the Transglobal World Music Hall of Fame and continue with more awards and recognitions, such as the Afro Pepites call, of which the Mundofonian Juan Antonio has been part of the selection committee, or the appointment of the new honorary members of the Claustro Universitario de las Artes of the Universidad de Alcalá, three of whom, Jorge Pardo, Carles Benavent and Rubem Dantas, we listen to in the legendary sextet of Paco de Lucía. A programme that transports us through distant corners of the world (Niger, Spain, China and the Nordic lands of the Sámi) and in which we end up sailing the northern seas of Europe, with new releases that take us from Estonia to Belgium.

The Transglobal World Music Hall of Fame celebrates the gratitude, respect and admiration for the artists of the world’s cultures, with special recognition to those who have already left us, as well as to other professionals who work with these musics and who have stood out for their dedication and excellence. Latin American musics resound, with roots in Argentina, Haiti and Cuba, then continuing through the Mediterranean, with stops in Italy, with a klezmer connection from Ukraine, and in Cyprus. And we finish with Kurdish and Persian inspirations, completing a musical path filled with newly released treasures.

Comenzamos disfrutando de los tres discos favoritos de diciembre del 2025: el volumen 31 de la serie “Éthiopiques”, dedicado a Muluken Mèllèssè, y los que firman la arista húngara Veronika Varga y la iraní Mehrnam Rastegari. Continuamos con más novedades que nos llevan por Dinamarca, Polonia, los Balcanes, Rusia o la caribeña isla de Curasao, para terminar con varias producciones del sello neerlandés Audiomaze, con artistas de muy diversa procedencia entremezclando sones tropicales, orientales y jazz.

We begin by enjoying the three favourite albums of December 2025: volume 31 of the series “Éthiopiques”, dedicated to Muluken Mèllèssè, and the ones by the Hungarian artist Veronika Varga and the Iranian Mehrnam Rastegari. We continue with more new releases that take us through Denmark, Poland, the Balkans, Russia and the Caribbean island of Curaçao, ending with several productions from the Dutch label Audiomaze, with artists of very diverse backgrounds blending tropical and oriental sounds, and jazz.

From Africa to India with a klezmer finale

Presentamos nuevos álbumes que nos traen aires africanos desde Benín, Mali y Etiopía, destacando dos nuevas entregas de una serie discográfica ya mítica: “Étiopiques”. Las siguientes inspiraciones nos llevan al sur de Asia, con conexiones con Europa y Estados Unidos, donde terminamos, con la reedición de un clásico indispensable del klezmer.

We present new albums that bring us African sounds from Benin, Mali and Ethiopia, highlighting two new releases of a legendary record series: “Étiopiques”. The following inspirations take us to South Asia, with connections to Europe and the United States, where we finish with the reissue of an essential klezmer classic.

Our loose overview of this month’s Transglobal World Music Chart, created through the voting of a panel of world music disseminators from all continents, of which the makers of Mundofonías are co-creators and co-promoters. Hungarian, Brazilian, Persian, Lebanese, Welsh, Tuareg and Congolese rooted music resonates, along with some Afrobeat made in North America. Number one goes to the Mauritanian Noura Mint Seymali.

Viajamos primero por diversos parajes europeos, con sones húngaros con conexión griega, irlandeses, vascos, castellanos, flamencos, incluyendo un pasaje para Japón. Después, sones latinoamericanos nos llevan por Brasil, Norteamérica y Venezuela.

We select a bouquet of new albums freshly arrived in our editorial office, taking us through beautiful sounds, unexpected treatments and danceable rhythms. We first travel across various European landscapes with Hungarian sounds featuring a Greek connection, Irish, Basque, Castilian and flamenco sonorities, including a passage to Japan. Afterwards, Latin American rhythms guide us through Brazil, North America and Venezuela.

Como es habitual ya desde hace muchos años, el equipo de Mundofonías acudió a la cita anual del WOMEX, uno de los eventos más grandes relacionados con las músicas de raíz del planeta que cada año se celebra en una ciudad distinta. En este 2025 fue en Támpere, Finlandia, y de allí nos traemos impresiones sobre algunos conciertos memorables, que evocamos y que nos hacen viajar por Mali, Tanzania, Madagascar, Serbia, Taiwán o Mauritania, entre otros destinos. También las conversaciones que mantuvimos con Maxime Bobo, coimpulsor del proyecto franco-malgache Bobo & Behaja, y con los músicos taiwaneses de 3Peoplemusic. Escuchamos también a la ganadora del Premio al Artista, la mauritana Noura Mint Seymali, y comentamos también la renuncia al Premio a la Excelencia Profesional de los impulsores de los Syrian Cassettes Archives, escuchando algunas de las músicas recuperadas y recopiladas en esta iniciativa.

As has long been the case, the Mundofonías team attended the annual meeting of WOMEX, one of the largest events related to root musics on the planet that is held each year in a different city. In 2025 it took place in Tampere, Finland, and from there we bring impressions of some memorable concerts which we recall and which make us travel through Mali, Tanzania, Madagascar, Serbia, Taiwan and Mauritania among other destinations. We also share the conversations we had with Maxime Bobo, co-promoter of the Franco-Malagasy project Bobo & Behaja, and with the Taiwanese musicians of 3Peoplemusic. We listen to the winner of the Artist Award, the Mauritanian Noura Mint Seymali, and we also comment on the refusal of the Professional Excellence Award by the creators of the Syrian Cassettes Archives, listening to some of the music recovered and compiled in this initiative.
