New releases, tributes, vinyls and #Mundofonews

Comenzamos con cuerdas portuguesas y brasileñas, para seguir con el homenaje al percusionista Xavi Turrull con aquel clásico flamenco-hindú de Amalgama. Seguimos tirando de vinilo, para recordar también a Farafina, desde Burkina Faso, y entramos en el territorio de las #Mundofonews, hablando del ciclo Klangkosmos en Alemania, el Celtic Connections escocés y los Grammys más afines a las músicas mundófonas, entre otras novedades occitanas, polacas y jazzístico-orientales.

We start with Portuguese and Brazilian strings, to continue with a tribute to the percussionist Xavi Turrull with the vintage flamenco-Indian combination by Almalgama. We bring more old stuff from our vinyl collection to enjoy Farafina's music from Burkina Faso and, after that, we move on to our #Mundofonews, talking about Klangkosmos series in Germany, Celtic Connections in Scotland and the Grammy awards more close to the mundofonic styles, among other Occitan, Polish and Oriental-jazzy new releases.

Rumba-ing and Balkaning

Abrimos rumbeando desde Cuba, para sumergirnos después en los sonidos balcánicos, repasando la primera lista anual de la Balkan World Music Chart, de la que los dos hacedores de Mundofonías somos panelistas, y felicitando de nuevo a los griegos Petroloukas Halkias y Vasilis Kostas por situarse en lo más alto. Paseamos también por Burkina Faso, Turquía, Bretaña y Finlandia.

We start the show rumba-ing in Cuba, to continue diving into the Balkan sounds, reviewing the first annual Balkan World Music Chart, of which panel both Mundofonías-makers are members. We congratulate again the Greek musicians Petroloukas Halkias and Vasilis Kostas for reaching the top of the chart. We also take a walk through Burkina Faso, Turkey, Brittany and Finland.

Celebramos los tres discos favoritos de Mundofonías del mes de enero, con las griegas afincadas en Estambul del Sinafi Trio; la 7ª promoción de la Kreiz Breizh Akademi, desde Bretaña, y la nueva entrega de los legendarios Gaiteros de San Jacinto, desde el Caribe colombiano. Y en Colombia seguimos, rindiendo nuestro sentido homenaje a Carlos "Cuco" Rojas, arpista e impulsor del grupo Cimarrón y recientemente fallecido. Continuamos con diversas interacciones eléctricas, rockeras y jazzísticas con las músicas de Anatolia, Afganistán y Tracia, para acabar con sonoridades acústicas con inspiraciones célticas e inglesas.

We celebrate the three Mundofonías' favorite albums for January, by the Greek musicians living in Istanbul, Sinafi Trio; the 7th release by the Kreiz Breizh Akademi, from Brittany, and the new release of the Colombian Caribbean legends Los Gaiteros de San Jacinto.We continue in Colombia, paying a heartfelt tribute to Carlos "Cuco" Rojas, harp player and leader of Cimarrón band, recently passed away. We move on with different electric, rock and jazz influenced tunes from Anatolia, Afghanistan and Thrace, to end up with acoustic tunes and Celtic and English inspirations.

Este mes de enero del 2020 el número uno lo ocupa el proyecto "gnawa" de Asmâa Hamzaoui & Bnat Timbouktou.

We start 2020 with our free review of the Transglobal World Music Chart for this month, determined by a panel of world music specialists from all the continents of which the Mundofonías‘ presenters are co-creators and co-promoters. This month, January 2020, number one is for the gnawa music project by Asmâa Hamzaoui & Bnat Timbouktou.

De guitarras y otros sones viajeros

Guitars and other traveling sounds

La guitarra es protagonista en este programa, entre otros sones viajeros. Homenajeamos al artista irlandés Arty McGlynn, recientemente fallecido, y buscamos los sones de la guitarra también en tierras de Escocia, Norteamérica y Madagascar. Suenan otras brillantes combinaciones sonoras, con aires bretones contemporáneos, con encuentros globales en California o en Italia, o con maestros que han creado un lenguaje nuevo a base de flamenco y "jazz".

The guitar is playing a main role in this show, among other travelling sounds. We pay tribute to the Irish artist Arty McGlynn, recently passed away, and we look for more guitar tunes in Scotland, North America y Madagascar. We play other delightful musical combinations, with contemporary Breton tunes, global encounters in California or Italy, and with maestros that have created a new musical language made of flamenco and jazz.
