What happens when the very things you've been praised for your entire life are the patterns keeping you stuck?
In this episode of Munro Musings, I'm joined by Virginia, a former civil engineer turned somatic practitioner and founder of Magic of the In Between, for a conversation about nervous system patterns, people-pleasing, functional freeze, and what it really takes to reconnect with yourself.
We explore how behaviors like overachieving, hyper-independence, and putting everyone else's needs first can become deeply ingrained survival responses, especially when those behaviors have been rewarded since childhood.
Virginia shares her own journey of walking away from a successful engineering career, learning to recognize the patterns driving her decisions, and discovering somatic work as a way to rebuild self-trust and create a life that actually feels like hers.
In this conversation, we explore:
One of my favorite themes from this conversation is that personal growth doesn't have to become another thing to achieve. Sometimes the most meaningful changes happen when we stop forcing ourselves to figure everything out and start creating space to actually live.
Whether you're navigating burnout, questioning the path you've been on, or simply noticing patterns you're ready to change, this conversation is an invitation to get curious about what you've learned, what you're ready to unlearn, and who you want to become.

What if the patterns causing you the most friction aren't flaws to fix, but parts of you that learned to keep you safe?
Welcome to Munro Musings. I'm your host, Dr. Krystal Kohlberg. I bring together performance psychology and human design to help you understand how you're wired so you can stop burning out and start working with your own energy.
In this episode, I'm joined by Bethany Russell, a licensed therapist, coach, and consultant who specializes in Internal Family Systems, or IFS. We get into what parts work actually is, why your most frustrating patterns exist for a really good reason, and what healing looks like when you stop fighting your own system.
We cover the difference between exiles, managers, and firefighters, how codependency and fawning show up as survival strategies, what legacy burdens are and how to release them, and where IFS and Human Design overlap in ways that might surprise you.
If you've been doing the self-improvement work but feel like something deeper still isn't shifting, this conversation is worth your time.

What if the problem isn’t that you’re not resilient enough… but that you’re being resilient in the wrong places?
Welcome to Munro Musings. I’m your host, Dr. Krystal Kohlberg. I’m creating this space for high performers who are done following the “right” way, and are ready to build a lifestyle that actually fits. I bring together performance psychology and human design to help you understand how you’re wired so you can stop burning out and start working with your own energy.
We’ve been taught that resilience, mental toughness, and pushing through are the keys to success. That belief has created a culture where burnout feels normal, and suffering feels necessary.
There’s a missing piece in that conversation. Not all hard things are created equal, and some of the struggle you’re carrying isn’t required. I outline the difference between unavoidable challenges, intentional growth, and the kind of burnout that comes from misalignment. That last one is where many people get tripped up.
If you’ve been forcing yourself into systems that don’t fit, this podcast will change how you think about effort, energy, and what success actually costs.

She bridges sport performance psychology with human design to help you discover your unique energy blueprint.

If you’ve ever wondered why you react the way you do, why certain patterns keep repeating, or why some areas of life feel easy while others feel inexplicably hard — this episode is for you.
In today’s episode, I’m combining Human Design and parts work to help you understand yourself without making yourself wrong. This conversation isn’t about fixing you or trying to become someone else. It’s about awareness, compassion, and finally having language for experiences you’ve likely felt your whole life but couldn’t quite explain.
We talk about your Human Design centers, what it means to have defined vs. undefined energy, and how conditioning actually shows up in real life — especially in relationships.
I also share how I use parts language to relate to different aspects of my Human Design, so instead of saying “this is just how I am,” you can say “there’s a part of me that feels this way.”
When you understand where you’re consistent, where you’re influenced by others, and which parts learned to adapt in order to feel safe, everything starts to make more sense.
In this episode, we explore:This episode is especially helpful if you’ve ever:
You’re not broken. Your parts aren’t wrong. They were strategies — and now you get to work with them intentionally.

In this episode, I sit down with Annie Graybill, founder of HavenWith a platform connecting travelers with non-toxic, fragrance-free vacation rentals and hotels. If you've ever walked into a hotel room and been hit with overwhelming artificial scents, or struggled with migraines and reactions while traveling, this conversation is for you.
Annie shares her journey from working at Avocado Green Mattress to creating HavenWith, inspired by her own increasing sensitivity to synthetic fragrances and chemicals. We dive into what makes a rental truly non-toxic (spoiler: it's more than just skipping the plug-ins), how hosts are embracing cleaner products, and why this movement is gaining momentum.
We also explore Annie's human design chart. She's a ⅗ Emotional Manifesting Generator with triple split definition and eight of nine centers defined. We discuss how her natural energy, trial-and-error learning style, and innovative problem-solving abilities have shaped her path from changing majors three times to moving to Colorado sight unseen, and now building a business that serves a growing community of health-conscious travelers.
