Letlapa Ngoato Mphahlele was born on 8 December 1960 in Rosenkrantz, Northern Transvaal (now Limpopo) to Radikubu and Nkone. He grew up in the village of Manaleng in Northern Transvaal. He attended Rosenkrantz Primary School. As a youngster, he was an enthusiastic football player. In 1978, when he was in Standard Eight (now Grade Ten), Mphahlele and his cousin Moses started a student union, the Union of Self Study (USS), at Ngwana-Mohube High School. The USS, ostensibly, meant to assist students with their studies, had a political agenda. Mphahlele was elected President of the USS. However, the Principal banned the organisation as soon as he heard about it. In August 1978, he left for Johannesburg enroute to Botswana, into exile. Upon arrival in Gaborone, he registered at the Botswana Council for Refugees. Here he met a young person who introduced him to Tsietsi Mashinini and Khotso Seatlholo of the Soweto Students Representative Council (SSRC). He lived with a group of SSRC youth for a while. They tried to recruit him into the SSRC. Eventually he decided to join the Pan Africanist Congress (PAC).

The South African Muslim Network (SAMNET) sent a letter to the eThekwini Municipal Manager in relation to the enforcement of the animal sacrifice by-laws ahead of the Islamic festival of Eid ul-Adha last week. The Red Meat Regulations of 2004 - which oversees animal slaughter, requests that those conducting the practice need to apply for a permit seven days prior. But many in eThekwini say this is a by-law that wasn't previously enforced.

The Durban Muslim community felt they were being targeted about the processes to follow when

slaughtering for ritual and religious purposes for EID-al-Adha celebrations.

The South African Muslim Network (Samnet) said their offices had been inundated with calls and concerns from the community regarding a notice issued by the eThekwini Municipality and possible selective enforcement of legislation of the Red Meat Regulations 2004, Section 128(2)(a).

Frank Chikane, the son of James and Erenia Chikane, was born on 3 January 1951 in Johannesburg. His father was a preacher in the Apostolic Faith Mission (AFM) church. Chikane attended Orlando High School in Soweto where he matriculated before registering at the University of the North (Turfloop) in 1972 to study science. It is at Turfloop where he met with Cyril Ramaphosa. As a student, he became politically aware, being influenced largely by the Black Consciousness ideology. Thus, he became involved in the activities of the South African Student Organisation (SASO) at university. His political activism led to his repeated detention which in turn disrupted his education forcing him to leave the university in 1974. Chikane later continued his education obtaining a Master of Arts degree from Harvard University and a Master of Theology from the University of Natal (now KwaZulu-Natal).

Judges in two U.S. states on Thursday (June 30) moved to block those states from enforcing bans or restrictions on abortion. The moves comes a week after the U.S. Supreme Court overturned the landmark 1973 Roe v. Wade decision that had established a nationwide right to the procedure. Meanwhile in Kentucky, a judge issued a temporary restraining order preventing the state from enforcing a ban passed in 2019 and triggered by the Supreme Court's decision. The Florida and Kentucky decisions came amid a flurry of litigation by abortion rights groups seeking to preserve the ability of women to terminate pregnancies after last weekend’s historic ruling by the conservative-majority Supreme Court.
