On the second edition of the #MusiciansForPalestine podcast we hear the voice of Asher Gamedze, a musician, composer, writer and activist in Cape Town, South Africa. Asher is deeply involved in exploring the intersections between the arts and movements for justice in South Africa and internationally.
Asher is one of the over 600 musicians from around the world who signed the #MusiciansForPalestine letter in May 2021, that collectively expressed support for the fundamental rights of the Palestinian people, speaking out against the Israeli government's military bombardment of Gaza that killed more than 245 Palestinians, as well as ongoing colonization of Palestinian resources and lands, as seen in Silwan and Sheikh Jarrah.
In this exchange with Asher, we hear many important points that inspire this interview series, organized by #MusiciansForPalestine, aiming to highlight connections between struggles for freedom and liberation around the world. This is an open dialogue and highlighting of some of the artists who signed the Musicians for Palestine letter.
