A kaleidoscopic sonic riot, Belgium-Japanese duo Aili's debut album Nandakke? has proven to be one of 2024's breakout hits, its joyful collision of electro-pop, electronica, house music and so much more grabbing the attention of everyone from the Belgian national press to the likes of KCRW in the United States. Now, whilst the band get ready for a busy summer touring the album, Eskimo present the first club ready remixes, re-edits and reworks.

First up is another Belgian newcomer GAIKO, who has been making a name for himself over the past year with his own rhythmically intricate, genre defying electronica. For his remix of Oyasumi, GAIKO has plated the track's rolling bass line and ecstatic breakbeats in a sheen of chrome adding hypnotic gqom influenced rhythms and staccato snares to produce an adrenaline fuelled remix that demands to soundtrack an ultra speed car chase through neon lit streets.

Boutique imprint Ritual Release announce their upcoming release "Making It Right", a collaborative effort between indie dance artist Woolfy and the producer Love Athletics. Scheduled for release on May 28, 2024, this record is an ambitious synthesis of classic new wave/goth anthems, channelling the spirits of New Order, Depeche Mode, and The Killers with modern sonics and Disco savant twist.

The original "Making It Right" sets the theme with dark, chuggy Disco vibes, Woolfy’s vocals echo the haunting tones of Peter Murphy and Ian Curtis with lyrics that hold the complexities of love and romanticism, drawing parallels between its cyclical nature and the constant rotation of the world. Resilience and determination shine through as the song explores the journey of overcoming obstacles to find love's ultimate fulfilment. With driving rhythms and ethereal melodies this record captures the essence of both classic New Wave and modern electronic music.

Well loved artists Prins Thomas, Ilya Santana are joined by the emerging Boys' Shorts with an impressive line-up of remixes. As expected each brings a unique flavour, with Prins Thomas offering a spirited main remix and a more stripped-back dub version, transforming the original’s measured synth-work into a complex and layered soundscape in the Nordic style with his uplifting arrangement flair. Ilya Santana steps up to the plate and takes things back a few years with his Italo sleaze inspired '84 mix. True to its name this rework brings the sequenced energy straight down the middle. Closing the record Boys' Shorts inject a more beat focussed sound, tighter and more dancefloor oriented whilst keeping the nostalgic essence of the original in their mix and dub.

This record highlights Woolfy's lyrical depth and Love Athletics’ driving production whilst exemplifying Ritual Release’s commitment to delivering music that pushes the genre onwards, a timeless piece that resonates with fans of classic and modern sounds alike.

ICCHĀ, meaning 'desire', is an international project that started in 2023 in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Spearheaded and conceptualized by Miet Warlop and musically enhanced by Micha Volders, the work "Chant For Hope" was collaboratively realized with seven native performers and premiered at the opening of the Dhaka Art Summit. This monumental living sculpture involved casting hundreds of Bengali words in plaster, fostering a dynamic interplay between performers, public space, and participation while delving into the relationship between humans and language. The performance made words extremely tangible, sometimes leading to unexpected chaos and Impromptu slogans.

Working together in Dhaka towards a shared goal was a profound experience for everybody involved, albeit one punctuated by cultural contrasts and unexpected challenges that ultimately infused the project with palpable energy and a sense of collective purpose.

Recordings were carefully curated into a persuasive album that still carries the inherent structure and heart of chant for hope. The musical cadence and rich heritage of the Bengali language provide the foundation for a captivating soundworld, with angular drumming and vocals that oscillate in mantra-like repetitions. A powerful and uncompromising journey featuring the performances of slam poet Shayer Noor, the energetic Muhammad Shanto, and the Chittagonian-spirited Tanny Das Gupta as protagonists while navigating through the vibrant frenzy of Dhaka.

We return to Asia for our next release, specifically to Seoul, to present the talented producer "Celex", yet another example of the inexhaustible quality of underground Korean music.

Celex, formerly known as Cabinett, is no stranger to electronic music, having spent years developing his own sound where house and deep were his common dominators. This time, the Korean producer moves towards a more "disco" and organic sound.

In "Capa Disco Works", Celex delivers 6 tracks in a "balearic" key where arpeggios and psychedelia go hand in hand, creating the perfect soundtrack for a Mediterranean vacation. Indeed, the album was crafted by Celex following a holiday in Mallorca.

Imagine what the result would be if Giorgio Moroder had spent a weekend at the legendary "Pikes" with only his synthesizers and a good dose of LSD for company; that's what "Capa Disco Works" sounds like.

Camion Bazar revisit ‘No Flag’, the track which launched their ENEMY DANCE imprint back in 2023, with a remix from German duo CYRK.

For the first remix on the ENEMY DANCE label, the esteemed entrustees for the job is CYRK, a widely beloved Berlin-based duo well known for their gritty machine driven Electro, Techno and IDM which has found a home on the likes of Cultivated Electronics, Science Cult and Lone Romantic among others. Here the pair work their magic on ‘No Flag’ by Camion Bazar, extracting the raw dance foor energy of the original’s chords while stirring in their own crisp analogue rhythm’s, multilayered synth melodies and gnarly bass lines all dynamically evolving and unfolding throughout the remixes six minute duration.

Luxembourg’s cause_effect delivers his ‘Soft Focus’ LP via Belgian imprint Perspektif this May, comprised of eight original compositions and coming on cassette, CD and digitally.

Hailing from Luxembourg, producer cause_effect has been unveiling his modern take on the sound of 90’s and 2000’s Techno, IDM and Electronica across the album format in recent years. Debuting with ‘Selected Networks’ and following with ‘Heat Wave’, he here delivers his third long player ‘Soft Focus’, named after a reverb preset on the Yamaha FX500. This preset gave shoegaze artists an ambient and lush atmosphere and was a reference for the preparation of this album.

Across the ‘Soft Focus’ LP, cause_effect traverses through multiple music genres in an exploration of sound, conceived to be released as futuristic music, but made in the past through the help of old converters and sampler emulations.

Within the eight track release cause_effect’s detailed sound design shines through, as does the numerous musical influences from Detroit Techno, to UK Jungle, Glitch, Breakbeat and more. Always prevalent as a theme throughout the project are raw, distorted rhythm’s, ethereal pad textures, glitch synths, choppy vocals and thunderous kicks.

To accompany the release of a highline walking documentary, Sweden’s Jannik Jivung delivers a cinematic soundtrack across the six-track ‘Above The Ground’ EP.

Liminal Shapes: ‘’In the summer of 2022 the athletes of the Squamish Highliner community of British Columbia came together to rig B.C.'s longest highlines. Jannik Jivung provides Inbound

with a cinematic 6 track EP to complement the stunning scenes and majestic moments of their documentary film with an epic soundscape. Above The Ground' marks Jivung’s debut release and

invites the listener to get familiar with his signature sound which blends analogue and digital vintage synthesizers with acoustic instruments resulting in organic textures and evolving

soundscapes. All tracks where composed and produced by Jivung with additional composition by Guillaume Richards, Johannes Wehrle and Marc-Andre Beauchemin, and mixed by him and his

long-time collaborator and studio partner Per Hammar.’’

‘Mountain Calling Us’ leads the release, perfectly setting the tone with a subtly nuanced drone intertwined with ethereal pad textures before ‘Coming Home’ shifts focus to elongated sub bass

tones, shimmering plucked strings and cinematic leads. ‘Sunset Walk/Northern Lights’ then edges further into the modern classical world via emotive piano melodies, unfurling synth pads and haunting atmospherics.

‘Focus’ follows, introducing the first rhythmic component of the project with a sturdy 4/4 rhythm flowing in combination with metallic drum tones and delicate chimes. The aptly titled ‘Adrenaline Rush’ comes next, starting off with a tension building drone before building to a crescendo of arpeggio bass and crisp drums. The ‘Liminal (Synth Only Mix)’ then rounds out the release, diving back into deeper realms with crackling synth flutters, ever shifting synth tones and a dynamic atmosphere throughout.

Miaux presents new LP ‘NEVER COMING BACK’ on VIERNULVIER Records.

The Belgian composer’s upcoming LP is inspired by the new film score she wrote for 60's cult film ‘CARNIVAL OF SOULS’.

Antwerp-based composer and synth virtuoso Miaux presents her new album, 'Never Coming Back’ on VIERNULVIER Records. The record is rooted in the recent film score she composed for the surreal and haunted cult movie 'Carnival of Souls' (1962).

Directed by American filmmaker Herk Harvey, this enigmatic ghost film influenced contemporary directors like David Lynch, George A. Romero, and Lucrecia Martel.

Miaux meticulously crafted the score in her home studio, relying solely on her two hands and a single synthesizer during the spring and summer of 2022. The inaugural performance of this renewed score with film, unfolded at Videodroom / Film Fest Gent 2022 in Ghent, Belgium. The compositions were subsequently unraveled, rewritten into full-fledged songs, and assembled into a new record entitled 'Never coming back ’, bearing Miaux’s unmistakable signature. The album is scheduled for release on May 3 and will be available on vinyl LP and all digital platforms.

Miaux will perform the album live at Roadburn Festival (NL), offering a pure interpretation of the new songs. Additionally, there are shows planned at STUK (Leuven) and Palmarium (Ghent), where she will perform the film score alongside the film.

A rush of recollection rendered in noise, nostalgia, or misty-eyed wonder.

And so, turning the pages of an aural ledger, The Family Germ presents ‘Omnium Gatherum’, a collection of phases. Opener ‘22 Kilometres’ races to catch the spark that lights the cinders. ‘Tenebrosi’ is the clarity of light defined by the intensity of shade. And ‘Deceived by an Agent of Satan’ is the accelerating emotion of a dawning realisation. Immovable moments lived and remembered here.

Paris based artist Shcaa returns to his Placidum imprint this May with the four-track ‘Neptune’ EP, showcasing his abstract twist on contemporary electronic music.

Over the past decade Shcaa’s works have found a home on the likes of Sharingtones, Automatic Writing, Blank Slate and Apollo among others, his signature sound encapsulates intricate layering, dynamic details and subtle nuance all the same. Here with

this new EP and the continuation of his fledgling label, Placidum, Shcaa expands on his roots and long standing relationship with club music, while also unveiling a hidden substance beyond the dance factor through musical experimentation.

Opening the EP is ‘Her Conscious Drift To Neptune’s Frozen Reliefs’, a haunting slice of micro tinged house fuelled by a jazzy rhythm, modulating synth melodies, wandering bass tones and expansive atmospheric swells. ‘Leviatano’ follows next and wanders into dubtinged territory via an amalgamation of stab sequences, hazy textures, shuffled percussion and hypnotic vocal chants.‘Where Have We Met’ follows next to open the latter half of the release, seeing Shcaa sonically diverge into a melancholic ambient world through unfurling synth lines, plucked psychedelic strings and processed voices. Title-cut ‘Neptune’ then rounds out the EP, a billowing excursion through bubbling synth flutters, swaying echoes, spiralling dub echoes and metallic flutters. This release resonates with several of the artists’ endeavours /obsessions. An aquatic quality both in the poetic imageries and evolving structures. A tension encompassed between the memory and the now.
