Group show of work by Fall 2019 Southeast students in ceramics, drawing, painting, and digital art.

Paintings, Drawings, Sculpture, and Design from students enrolled in beginning HCC-NW Studio Art Courses at Spring Branch, Alief-Hayes Road, and Katy campuses. Houston artist and Willowridge High School art teacher Shekita Thornton will select the outstanding student works and HCC professors will, by consensus, choose the Faculty Award recipient.

Dr. Christopher McKim, baritone and Dr Kathleen Ruhleder, mezzo-soprano, present a musical theatre cabaret on the theme of what it takes to be an adult. Features songs by Stephen Sondheim, Kander & Ebb, and many more.

The Houston-based Kazoku Quartet is a classical saxophone ensemble devoted to high-quality chamber music that can be enjoyed by all. The diverse backgrounds of the four members (Daniel Gelok, Eleanor Parker, Masahito Sugihara, and Evan Withner) and the various demands of the greater Houston area musical scene have established a dynamic ensemble which regularly performs in classical, jazz, folk, and pop idioms. The Kazoku Quartet regularly works closely with contemporary composers such as Rob Smith, Joel Love, and Anthony Brandt, premiering new music and assisting with the development of new music for saxophone. 

The Annual Visual Arts Fest is a day for area high school students and art faculty to visit the HCC Visual Art Program, experience art-making in its extensive studio facilities, and interact with college art faculty through, workshops, portfolio reviews and college information sessions.

Juror Michelle O'Michael, well known for her monumental steel sculptures, will select the outstanding student piece in the categories of Painting, Drawing and Art. The professors will, by consensus, choose student art for Faculty Awards and Honorable Mentions.

From playing in hospitals, schools, and community centers to performing in Carnegie Hall, Taiwanese-American pianist Yvonne Chen enjoys programming site-specific performances, as well as creating a logical yet balanced array of music blending the familiar with the unfamiliar, the old and the new, and the traditional with the avant-garde in a single program. 

Tommy Taylor | Hand Held
Tommy Taylor investigates personal mythologies and narratives from his own life and re-contextualizes those experiences in video installations, paintings, and collages. In “Hand Held,” Taylor presents intimate scenes of domestic life that emphasize the importance of touch and the sensory experiences of the home. For the viewer, each piece feels both familiar and foreign, conscious and subconscious, abstract and tangible. Taylor’s work reminds us to always be attentive and aware of the present, and to investigate the familiar as a means to deeper awareness. Taylor is a multi-faceted artist who lives in Houston and teaches at Lone Star College.
