Have you ever left a doctor's office or an emergency room without answers, feeling uneasy that things did not get fixed or there was no resolution? Well, a lot of people have. A part of my success in still being here regarding my health is that I have been my own advocate. I have had to fight for me every step of the way. Tune in to this podcast as I dive deeper into what triggered this response for me, and very scary experience with my son that solidified that I will ALWAYS do my own research and stand up for what I believe.

I couldn’t think of a better way to begin season two than by having my best friend on the My Life in Pieces Podcast.

You know when you meet someone for the first time yet you feel like your souls are connected...typically you’d end up marrying that person. Well despite what my husband thinks, Andree is my person and I can’t wait for you to get to know her. After being diagnosed with my second rare disease, Andree and I began the fight for my life to get me a drug that could eventually prolong my life, tune in now to hear more about that fight and the measures we all went to.

One sunny afternoon in the fall of 2011 I was out for a walk enjoying my day, when all of a sudden I heard a pop. My knee had almost given out and became very painful, it started to swell and tripled in size. What took place over the next few weeks shocked and horrified me, but once I again, I began a new fight most thought I was destined to lose.

Sometimes you meet people at pivotal moments in your life, and it’s evident that you were destined to have that person in your life.

My next guest is exactly that.

A stranger I met on a plane, who quickly became a friend, I will cherish forever.

She is a mother of 4, a grandmother of 9, and an NHL wife, who remains a prominent face in the hockey community.

Over the last five years, she has been combining her passion for teaching and raising awareness about child sexual abuse. She decided to use her personal story as a sexual abuse survivor to educate as many people as possible about the detection and prevention of this epidemic. She is proud to be part of a fantastic team that is motivated and determined to make the world a safer place for children. Jessica is a survivor of child sexual abuse from a male family friend. After years of manipulation and control, even after the abuse ended, she decided to go against his wishes and break her silence. She has turned her pain into a registered charity, speaking to thousands of all ages about the empowerment found in using your voice to Roar.

The Aftermath: Part two finds Kelly’s abuser in jail for the crimes he committed against her and another young girl. While Kelly thought she was able to finally close the chapter, she couldn’t have anticipated the events that followed, including an unexpected drop in during her son’s football game.

Over the last few weeks, Kelly has been recapping her experience as a sexual abuse victim from age 12-16. After many years of trying to escape her abuser, she finds herself subpoenaed to court to testify for another girl who had also endured a similar experience to her. What happens next left Kelly’s world so shaken that she didn’t know how she would ever piece it back together. Things are about to get a little heavy on my next podcast series;

this is just me being honest with you, my followers who I value and appreciate so much.

The truth is that life isn't always butterflies and rainbows,

I know this first hand. I have faced many demons over the years,

and this experience, in particular, was pivotal in shaping me into the person I am today.

In one chapter of my story, I endured sexual abuse for four years.

I have healed through this trauma, and I am sharing it with you

to offer total transparency. I am not a victim. I am passionate about

sharing this chapter of my story with you for one purpose. CHANGE.

this is just of the reported cases and does not include how often this happens to men.

As I share my story, I will also have the privilege of educating our community through guest speakers who will provide resources, advice and help to others who have endured a similar crime.

So while I know hearing this part of my story will be difficult,
