Aman Mathur, a 3rd year International Student majoring in Global Management Studies shares his experience arriving in Toronto from India and finding a sense of community at the Ted Rogers School. He shares his story about why he chose TRSM, the choices he made, experiences he has had, and how TRSM supports helped him find his footing.

Aman explains how he navigated through his academic journey with the help of Centre for Student Development and Counseling, International Student Support, and Fit for Business.  Samantha Mpiana, a Business Management student majoring in Entrepreneurship, shares her experience going on international exchange to Paris! She shares her journey from how she applied, funded her trip, her experience being in Paris, and how she felt returning to Toronto.

Samantha funded her trip to Paris through co-op terms, the Global Exchange scholarship, and by working in Paris. She discusses how nerve-racking it was her first month of the exchange, stepping out of her comfort zone and networking, and just how beneficial TMU’s International Exchange program was for her personal development.

Temi Akeju, a second-year Accounting and Finance student shares his experience managing family pressure, dropping out of university, and taking a five-year break, before switching programs to a completely different program.

Temi began his university career as an engineering student in hopes of living up to his family's expectations but he quickly realized that the program wasn't for him. He dropped out and decided to take time to volunteer and work full time in sales, before joining the Accounting and Finance program at TRSM. He discusses his experience integrating back into a school environment after a 5-year break and rediscovering his ambition with the help of career consultants at TMU. Temi explains how he overcame family pressure and how transferring programs was necessary for his future.

Virgil Shaha, a third-year Business Technology Management student, shares his experience in his first year at the Ted Rogers School and being unsure of what steps to take. Virgil shares his thoughts on Fit for Business, the Business Career Hub, and more Ted Rogers School resources and how they were able to help him. He goes on to discuss the different things students can expect coming into their first year, as well as the many challenges that may come their way. Virgil talks about the feeling of intimidation, balancing school work and extracurriculars, and the fear of putting yourself out there in a new environment.

Mathrisha Fernando, a 3rd year Business Management student majoring in Human Resources, shares her experience of coming into her first year at the Ted Rogers School and feeling anxious and unsure about her goals and career journey. Marthrisha walks us through her thought process throughout her first year and how she found a support system through her own family, as well as the school’s resources like the Business Career Hub. After considering dropping out, she leaned on her supports and found her spark to be more involved and started joining student groups and looking for a career boost job. She highly recommends reaching out in your first year and to not feel pressured to follow other people’s path.

Jamie La graduated from the Accounting program at TRSM and is currently working full-time at PwC. In this episode, Jamie shares how he found a sense of belonging at the school and how he was able to prove himself through student groups. In his first-year, he knew he wanted to get involved in any way possible - leading him to networking events and case competitions to put himself out there. Throughout his university career, he joined 10 student groups including TRES, TRCSA, CSRSA, TRSS, MDSA, and more. With his experience in those student groups, he developed his knowledge and skillset and was able to translate those skills into the workforce through the Co-op program and now in his full-time position. Jamie highly recommends first-year students to leverage all the resources available at TRSM in order to develop the transferable skills necessary for their career.

Aleeza Memon, a second-year Business Management student majoring in Human Resources Management, shares her experience transferring from another university to Ted Rogers School of Management (TRSM). Aleeza speaks about what she did in her first year at TRSM to engage in various student groups and gain skills through different programs and services such as Fit for Business, Business Career Hub, and the Career Boost Program. She also shares the importance of being involved earlier in your undergraduate journey whether it’s through being in a student group or attending events and why it is so important.

Minji Kim, a 4th year Business Management majoring in Marketing, shares her TRSM International Exchange Program experience in Paris. Minji walks us through what the application entails and how supportive the TRSM exchange program is throughout the process. Minji’s exchange experience in Paris has helped shape her personally and professionally, allowing her to discover her passion for marketing in the fashion and beauty industry. She highly recommends all TRSM students to take advantage of the International Exchange Program as it’s a once in a lifetime experience.

In this week’s episode, you’ll learn tips on how to prepare for the video interview of your Co-op application with Keith Wilson.

Keith Wilson, 3rd year Business Technology Management student, shared best practices when completing your Co-op video interview. To prepare his application for the Ted Rogers Co-op Program, Keith leveraged different services from the BCH, specifically attending Bootcamps, which sparked his drive to engage within the Ted Rogers School and helped him build an extensive portfolio of extracurricular experiences to share in his interview and application. Referring back to his successful experience applying to the Co-op program, his tips for students who are currently working on their video interview are to find a niche point to make the application personable and show that you’re able to represent the school in a professional manner.

In this week's episode of My Story in 30, Bavisha Thavarajah, 3rd year HRM co-op student. As the first cohort coming into TRSM in a fully virtual environment because of the pandemic, Bavisha looked for different ways to get involved and make the most out of her time at TMU such as tutoring services and events. Seeing the growth and impact of putting herself out there and leveraging the resources available, she decided she wanted to help fellow students and took on being a Tutor at PASS. Bavisha explains that tutoring and PAL sessions are useful and provide flexibility for students to practice the course materials based on their learning styles. Her advice for first-year students is to not be afraid to ask questions because tutoring services are there to help students succeed!
