It's easy to overlook the expertise that people gain from lived experiences. And it's sometimes even easier to feel bad for people because of their lot in life. But disability experts have been marginalized in our society, even after laws are changed and policies are challenged. It's past time that politicians listen and learn and act.

Some doctors are reporting they have compassion fatigue from dealing with patients who are vaccine hesitant or are just not convinced of the public health risks of COVID. I know how from experience how draining it can be trying to debunk and educate people who are convinced that they are the ones who know the "real truth".

Health care is always an election issue. And every party wants to assure us that they are going to be the ones to fix the problems. But when a Dartmouth man ends up laying on the ground for more than two hours waiting for an ambulance, there's a lot of things that need to be addressed.

It's the campaign promise that will likely be appealing to the people who already are fully vaccinated. But for those who are on the edge, the ones keeping us from entering Phase 5, it won't likely get their vote.
