In the fog-draped quiet of early morning, Jodi Ellison begins work on the most important wedding cake of her career at Petal & Crumb Bakery. Everything is on track—until she discovers a hidden note wired inside one of her handcrafted fondant roses. The metallic florist wire used to bind it isn’t hers, immediately signaling that someone tampered with the cake.
Shaken but determined, Jodi keeps the discovery quiet and begins retracing her steps in Chapter Two. She confirms that the wire is unfamiliar, meaning someone with access to her kitchen planted the message intentionally. As she subtly questions staff, reviews her workspace, and replays recent interactions, it becomes clear this wasn’t random mischief. The note was meant specifically for her—and likely connected to the high-profile wedding order.
By the end of Chapter Two, the mystery has shifted from unsettling accident to deliberate intrusion. Jodi realizes the threat isn’t abstract—it’s personal. And whoever hid that message knows more about her business, and possibly her town, than she ever suspected.
Some stories ask to be told. This one invites you to lean closer… and listen.
Set in the fog-kissed coastal town of Marigold Bay, this richly atmospheric cozy mystery unfolds inside the flour-dusted heart of Petal & Crumb Bakery, where sea salt tangles with vanilla sugar and secrets are folded as carefully as pastry dough.
At the center is Jodi Ellison—talented cake artist, small-town business owner, and a woman who believes precision can fix almost anything. When she begins work on the most important wedding cake of her career, she expects stress, perfectionism, maybe a bridezilla meltdown. What she does not expect is a hidden note wired inside a fondant rose.
The wire isn’t hers. The message isn’t sweet. And the timing couldn’t be worse.
What begins as a quiet pre-dawn discovery spirals into a layered mystery involving old family grievances, contested coastal property, altered town records, and a death that may not have been the accident everyone accepted. As Jodi peels back the story behind the wedding order, she finds herself navigating shifting alliances, buried financial stakes, and the unnerving realization that someone in Marigold Bay knows exactly how to use her bakery as a delivery system for warning—or threat.
The genius of this novel lies not in shock, but in atmosphere. Fog drapes the harbor. Gulls cry over weathered docks. Espresso steam curls through early morning silence. The town feels lived-in and intimate—every storefront warm, every conversation layered with subtext. Dialogue carries the tension; glances say more than accusations. And beneath the cozy rhythms of mixers and measuring cups runs a quiet current of danger.
The romantic thread between Jodi and the steady, watchful investigator drawn into the case adds a slow-burn warmth—never overpowering the mystery, but deepening its stakes. Trust becomes as fragile as spun sugar. Motives prove more complicated than greed. And as long-held assumptions about Marigold Bay’s founding history unravel, so too does the illusion that this town has ever been as peaceful as it seems.
What makes this edition especially immersive is its integrated audio narration. The experience becomes dual-layered: you can read the descriptive prose while hearing the soft hush of the narrator’s voice echo the tide, the hum of the mixers, the crackle of festival lanterns. Dialogue gains texture. Pauses feel deliberate. The coastal world expands beyond the page, creating a near-cinematic intimacy.
By the time the final chapter lands—with revelations that hinge not on violence, but on silence, omission, and fear—you realize this isn’t simply a whodunit. It’s a story about legacy, about the stories towns tell themselves, and about the quiet courage it takes to bring truth into the light.
Sweet on the surface. Layered underneath. And impossible to consume in just one sitting—whether you’re turning pages or listening for the next breath in the dark.
Marigold Bay will welcome you warmly.
Just don’t assume it’s harmless.

The Unexplained Life of Kim Peek
In this episode of Mysteries in the Dark, Omar and I dive into the extraordinary mind of a man who redefined what human potential looks like. Kim Peek—often called the real “Rain Man”—wasn’t just a savant; he was a walking library, a memory powerhouse, and a reminder that brilliance comes in forms the world doesn’t always expect. His life challenged science, inspired millions, and expanded our understanding of the brain itself. Buckle up, because Kim Peek’s legacy story isn’t just remarkable—it’s a celebration of the limitless ways a mind can shine.
Welcome to Mysteries in the Dark. In this episode, we explore Spiritual Preparation — the episode that reminds you eternity isn’t a theory, it’s a destination. Your soul is your mind, emotions, and will. Your spirit is the God‑given breath inside you that connects directly to Him. And Scripture makes it clear they’re not the same.
Hebrews 4:12 says God’s Word divides soul and spirit. Ecclesiastes 12:7 says your body returns to dust and your spirit returns to God. 1 Thessalonians 5:23 says you are spirit, soul, and body.
Life after death is real. Judgment is real. Heaven and hell are real. So don’t wait until it’s too late to prepare your spirit for eternity.
After you listen to this episode,, take a moment and pray: “Lord, I believe there is life after death. Prepare my spirit for eternity.”
Your forever matters — start preparing now.
Welcome to today’s episode, where we kick things off with… a stop sign. Not just any stop sign—an American one, proudly standing in the middle of Germany. Why? Because, as my German tour guide explained, Americans kept blowing through the international stop signs like they were optional décor. So Germany—land of efficiency—swapped to ours for safety.
And that got me thinking: road signs exist for one reason—to help us get home in one piece. And spiritually, commandments do the same thing. They’re God’s “Slow Down,” “Curve Ahead,” and “Seriously, Don’t Do That.”
With Lent starting, maybe it’s time to ask which signs we’ve been ignoring. Because as Dorothy said, “There’s no place like home”—especially the heavenly one.
Some men shake hands with death. Others lock eyes with it… and recognize it from childhood.
Before Donald Sutherland was a legend, before the movies, before the voice, before the face you can’t forget—death came for him early. Polio. Rheumatic fever. Hepatitis. Scarlet fever. Pneumonia. Hospital beds were his playground. Gasping for air was his lullaby. And every time, a small, stubborn body said no.
Then came 1968.
A quick job. Easy money. Two weeks in Yugoslavia filming Kelly’s Heroes. A goofy role. A carefree shoot. And a river carrying something no one could see.
Bacterial meningitis doesn’t knock. One moment he was joking between takes. That night, he collapsed. No antibiotics. No warning. A telegram crossed the ocean: “Your husband is dying. Come immediately.”
Donald slipped into a coma.
For six weeks, his body lay still while nurses fought a losing battle—seven spinal taps, shattered needles, whispered prayers, quiet sobs. People came in. Looked. Wept. Left.
And Donald heard everything.
Then the monitors went flat. His heart stopped. His brain went silent.
Donald Sutherland died.
What happened next came before the world even had a name for it. A blue tunnel. A white light. A peace so seductive it begged him to stop fighting. To let go. To drift.
And that’s where this story really begins.
Because death had finally won.
Or so it thought.
🎙️ This episode isn’t about fame. It’s about refusal. About what happens in the dark space between life and death— and the moment one man decided, once again, to say no.
He has no wife. No children. No family in the way most of us understand it.
And yet—he belongs to everyone.
A priest gives his life away. To the altar and the Eucharist. To the confessional at midnight. To hospital rooms, deathbeds, broken hearts, and desperate prayers. He becomes a spiritual father to people he may only serve for a few short years before being sent somewhere new—again.
There are no nine-to-five hours here. No guaranteed weekends. No paid vacations waiting on the calendar. When the phone rings in the dark, he answers. When the crisis comes, he shows up.
When you give to the Church, you’re not funding luxury. You’re supporting a man who lives simply—who receives a modest stipend for food, clothes, and gas, and relies on the generosity of the faithful just to rest when he can.
Priests lean on volunteers. On staff. On parishioners. On you. And even when they want to be everywhere at once—they can’t.
Because priests are human. They grow tired. They feel the weight. They carry more than most of us ever see.
This is the hidden life behind the collar. The sacrifice behind the sacrament. And the quiet cost of saying “yes” to God—every single day.
Welcome to the conversation.
The stars are still shining… So why does the world feel darker than ever?
This episode begins with a stunning image of a distant nebula—but it quickly turns our gaze inward, toward a far more urgent question: Where has the light of faith gone?
Jesus doesn’t merely call Himself the Light of the World. He calls His disciples to be that light—to live with integrity, to love sacrificially, and to stand firm in truth.
Yet today, moral confusion abounds. Church doors are locked. Fear replaces trust. Right and wrong grow blurred. And faith is too often pushed to the margins.
Drawing from Sacred Scripture, lived experience, and the urgency of the approaching season of Lent, this episode challenges listeners to reclaim their Christian identity as salt that preserves what is good and light that reveals truth in a darkened world.
Because salt that loses its flavor is useless. And light hidden under a basket saves no one.
This is a call to moral renewal. A call to deeper faith. A call to allow Christ’s love to shape our choices, our courage, and our witness.
As Lent 2026 draws near, the question is simple—but demanding:
Will we shine… or will we fade into the darkness?
🎙️ Tune in—and recommit to living the faith the world so desperately needs.
“This little light of mine… I’m gonna let it shine.”
History Lost: The Ambassador Theater
Before it was a plaza… before the fountain… There was a palace.
In 1926, the Ambassador Theater exploded onto the St. Louis skyline — 17 stories of pure spectacle, called “the greatest event here since the World’s Fair.” Six floors of velvet, marble, lights, and live music. Eleven floors of bustling offices above. It wasn’t just a theater — it was an experience.
Vaudeville gave way to silver screens. Cinerama wrapped audiences in cinematic wonder. Rock legends like Van Morrison and KISS later shook its walls. But glory faded, chandeliers vanished, and by the mid-’90s… the wrecking ball swung.
Today, water ripples where applause once thundered.
This is the story of a masterpiece we let slip away — the rise, the roar, and the quiet fall of the Ambassador Theater.
