There are several reasons why people might disappear. Ranging from criminal intent to mental health issues or simply choosing to start a new life. The uncertainty and lack of closure that missing person cases bring can devastate family and friends. And the impact on communities can also be significant.

This week’s episode is going to be something a little different in honour of my favourite holiday. Halloween. A little fiction to break up the horrific stories I tell on my podcasts. And to celebrate the return of Beyond Your Nightmares. So settle back with your favourite spooky drink and snack and enjoy a countdown on the scariest stories from Reddit.

True crime is filled with unsolved murders that have so many question marks surrounding their outcome. Even though to authorities it may be case closed. In their eyes, it was a simple accident. However, when even the most amateur of sleuth digs below the surface. All may not be what it seems.

This episode of Mysteriously Listed will focus on missing persons throughout the 1960s. Honestly, it was a struggle to get information. Case files get lost. Evidence gone forever. And what is left are families going lifetimes with no answer as to where their loved one could be. I have tried to steer away from more well-known cases of the time and instead focus on those you most likely have never heard of.
Missing 1960s. This week on Mysteriously Listed.

We all know it as the happiest place on Earth. Well, not if you die there, then it’s not. A quick google search and there seems to be a surprising number of accidental deaths on Disneyland rides. So many things can go wrong on an amusement park ride. Mechanical error. Operator fault. And then you get the people who refuse to follow the rules. In an instant, you can go from gleefully screaming on a rollercoaster, to witnessing someone fly to their death. It’s why this podcaster prefers her feet firmly on the ground!

Right now there’s remarkably little regulations in homeschooling. In ten states in the United States, homeschooling is completely unregulated. And in 15 more, parents only have to notify their school district that their kids will be learning at home. There are no minimum educational standards for teachers, no curriculum review, no testing or monitoring to make sure that any education is taking place at all. No one to check if these children are okay. Allowing some parents to hide their crimes. Sometimes fatally.

There are 59 missing children listed in the Colorado Bureau of Investigation’s cold case database. And with the 2019 discovery of 12-year-old Jonelle Matthews’s remains 34 years after she went missing from her Greeley home, I feel it’s time to look at some of the children of the CBI database that have puzzled authorities for decades. Colorado’s missing children who vanished without a trace. This week on Mysteriously Listed.

Tortured artist is a term we have all heard. And musicians are a breed of their own. Drugs, sex and rock and roll as it will. But there are certain mysteries in music that haunt the background of songs or silence between tracks. When it comes to musicians, a bright spotlight can often cast the darkest of shadows. Allowing those involved the greatest ability to hide, escape and, sometimes, disappear forever.

True crime has almost become somewhat of a bedtime tale to relax for sleep of a night. Disturbing content pretty much goes with the territory for true crime fans, but there is something about 911 calls that will chill even the most desensitised of listeners.
