In Part 1 of The Lizzie Borden House Murders Story, Mysterium explored the Borden family, the social world of 1892 Fall River, the financial and personal tensions inside the household, and the events leading toward one of the most infamous unsolved murder cases in American history.
Part 2 begins on August 4, 1892.
Recorded inside the historic Lizzie Borden House in Fall River, Massachusetts—America’s Most Haunted House— hosts Ryk McIntyre and Elaina Mariani reconstruct the morning Andrew and Abby Borden were brutally murdered and follow the case from the crime scene through the investigation, arrest, trial, and aftermath.
Hour by hour, they examine the movements of the people inside the house, Lizzie’s disputed account of where she had been, Bridget Sullivan’s role as a key witness, the discovery of both bodies, and the investigative mistakes that complicated the case almost immediately. From contradictory statements and the infamous burned dress to questions surrounding poison, inheritance, opportunity, and the absence of clear physical evidence, suspicion increasingly centered on Lizzie Borden.
The episode then follows Lizzie into one of the most sensational American trials of the 19th century. Her arrest became national news, newspapers fueled public fascination with every rumor and courtroom development, and the prosecution faced the extraordinary challenge of convincing an all-male Victorian jury that a respectable woman could have committed such brutal crimes. In June 1893, Lizzie was acquitted—but the verdict did little to end the mystery.
More than 130 years later, the questions remain.
Did Lizzie kill Andrew and Abby? Did an unknown intruder enter the house? Was someone else close to the family involved? Or did Lizzie know more than she ever revealed?
Ryk and Elaina examine the major suspects, rumors, and theories surrounding the murders before discussing what became of Lizzie after the trial and how the case transformed both her life and the history of the house.
Finally, the story returns to the place where it all began. Drawing on decades of visitor accounts, reported apparitions, unexplained footsteps, moving objects, strange sounds, and personal experiences from inside the house, the hosts explore why the events of 1892 remain inseparable from the hauntings associated with the property today.
The trial ended. The mystery never did.
And at the Lizzie Borden House, many believe history left more than a story behind...much more.

In this debut episode of Mysterium, hosts Rick McIntyre and Elena Mariani broadcast directly from inside the infamous Lizzie Borden House in Fall River, Massachusetts. Setting the stage for a two-part investigation, they break down the common myths surrounding the 1892 double homicide, separating historical fact from popular folklore—starting with corrections to the famous nursery rhyme.
The hosts explore the high-tension atmosphere leading up to the tragedy, emphasizing the strict socioeconomic hierarchy of Victorian Fall River, internal family friction over Andrew Borden's real estate dealings, and the financial anxieties of the Borden sisters.
They introduce the key figures in the household, dissect common rumors (such as alleged poison attempts and bird slaughter), and highlight the severe investigative blunders made by local law enforcement due to an unsecured crime scene and a missing police force. Intertwined with the historical backdrop, both hosts share firsthand paranormal experiences from their time working in the house, detailing encounters with full-body apparitions, self-moving objects, and the house's resident ghost cat, Max.
