In this week’s show our guest is Ryan Ratigan a former host of the Mystic-Skeptic Podcast, he is also an attorney, activist and naturalist. We explore his involvement with movement to support the Standing Rock Sioux tribe in North Dakota. They not only want to reclaim their national sovereignty, protect their territory from corporations, but they want to preserve water resources and create a more ecological future for our descendants. As part of the Sojourners Series we explore the” Seven Generation Rule” which Ryan explains to be a source of inspiration for the principal of protecting the environment and honoring past and future generations. Ryan was a legal observer at Standing Rock and witnessed an almost military operation by the local police and and private contractors. This peaceful protestors or “protectors” have taken a stand against corporate interests since April 1, 2016. On March 6. 2017 a march on Washington was organized by The Indigenous Environmental Network. According to an article from PBS.org: “The protest comes as a federal judge in Washington is weighing a request by the Standing Rock and Cheyenne River Sioux tribes to halt construction of the last section of the Dakota Access pipeline pending the outcomes of their lawsuit seeking to stop the project. The tribes say that section of the pipeline, which will pass under Lake Oahe, a large Missouri River reservoir, will threaten their water supply, sacred sites and religious rights. The judge is expected to rule this week.”(BLAKE NICHOLSON, ASSOCIATED PRESS March 6, 2017 at 3:28 PM EDT)Below is Ryan’s post on Facebook that inspired this show:“I see a worldwide awakening as to who we are as natural, living beings on this planet. I see the current extremes of death, insanity, destruction, etc… as the catalyst that leads to our awakening. I have met many liberated beings in the last few months and these meetings have given me a renewed spirit of hope and optimism. I see our indigenous relatives guiding us on our collective paths towards a collective evolution; spiritual, individual, and relational. I see the divine love that exists within each of us coming out of its shell. This is not an easy evolution, however it is what our hearts and souls desire.”With little media coverage please visit the following websites for more information:https://www.democracynow.org/topics/dakota_accesshttps://www.indybay.org/newsitems/2017/01/30/18796017.phphttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dakota_Access_Pipeline_protests

After a three month hiatus the Mystic-Skeptic Radio Show is back on Radio Free Nashville. We start this half season with the first episode of a series called “Sojourners” where we explore intentional living, personal growth and community creation. We see “Sojourners” as an opportunity to refocus our show to be more positive and have a greater impact on the world we live in. In the past three months it seems that we are all just surviving the current state of affairs and have lost touch with what makes us all human. The U.S. obsession with propaganda news and political drivel has created a stagnant atmosphere where creative people feel stuck and the rest of the population is being manipulated to and fro. Our first guest is a breath of fresh air as she shares her experiences and intellectual musings…In this week’s show we have a special guest, Isabel Turly a student at Vanderbilt University pursuing a B.A. in philosophy. She lived at an intentional community in Panama and works for The Belcourt Theatre. We discuss her experiences and how young people in our contemporary society are looking for meaning.Kalu Yala Intentional Community is located an hour and a half from San Miguel, Panama. According to it’s website they are building a new village at a river valley that is trying to bring together entrepreneurs, artists, scientists and modern day romantics.Isabel shared her experience at Kalu Yala and her life as a student in Nashville, Tn. She also duscusses about her love of writers such as Alan Greensberg and how The Beat Generation has inspired her in art and life.

  • The Flat Earth Conspiracy Theory

    Send us Fan Mail

In this week’s show we discuss The Flat Earth Conspiracy Theory with three different guests, Theo Wellington president of the Barnard-Seyfert Astronomical Society, Theologian Michael Heiser and skeptical scientific researcher Bryan Dunning. Most of our conversation is with Ms. Wellington who debunks the outrageous claims of the Flat Earth conspiracists. Dr. Michael Heiser author of the unseen realm discusses his struggle challenging Christians about this topic, while Brian Dunning of Skeptoid.com shares the history behind this movement. For those unfamiliar with this controversy, in the past couple of years religious and secular individuals who believe the earth is flat have resurfaced in the age of the Internet. We are not speaking about the discredited Flat Earth Society, but they were the ones who popularized fabrications of a “round Earth conspiracy” orchestrated by NASA and other government agencies. The Flat Earth belief came to the forefront in 2015 as media personalities used Twitter to proclaim the Earth is flat. Our main guest Theo Wellington is a graduate from Case Western Reserve University with a Bachelor of Science in astronomy. She Joined the Barnard-Seyfert Astronomical Society in 2003 and worked at the Sudekum Planetarium for eleven years and is a volunteer with the NASA/JPL Solar System Ambassador program. She lives in Goodlettsville, north of Nashville.
