An advocate for "Free-Speech" and the free exchange of ideas, Mr. Andrews talked about the limited understanding that the authors of religious texts had.To him atheists have a strong sense of justice and battle against "belief" which is the most important element of religion; as compared to atheism which is based in fact-checking and empirical evidence. He shared his family dynamics and how his personal views clash with his fundamentalist Christian upbringing which considers having doubt and asking questions to be blasphemous.Support the show

“Our bible reveals to us the character of our God with minute and remorseless exactitude. The portrait is substantially that of a man — if one can imagine a man charged and overcharged with evil impulses far beyond the human limit; a personage whom no one would desire to associate with, now that Nero and Caligula are dead.In the Old Testament His acts expose His vindictive, unjust, ungenerous, pitiless, and thousand-fold severity; punishing innocent children for the misdeeds of their parents; punishing unoffending populations for the misdeeds of their rulers; even descending to wreak bloody vengeance upon harmless calves and lambs and sheep and bullocks, as punishment for inconsequential trespasses committed by their proprietors. It is perhaps the most damnatory biography that exists in print anywhere; it makes Nero an angel of light and leading, by contrast.”(Autobiography of Mark Twain, Volume II, page 128 Dictated June, 19, 1906).In Dr. Crossan most recent book, How to Read the Bible and Still Be a Christian: Struggling with Divine Violence from Genesis through Revelation, tackles Twain’s and other people’s misunderstanding of the Bible. The premise of Dr. Crossan’s book involves an honest assessment of these sacred texts and how not only metaphor is used in scripture to express theological truths but a dialectical conflict between peaceful and violent concepts. We also discuss the many biblical passages that appear to support the oppression of women, slavery and xenophobia, which can be explained in relation to the overall theme of peace and non-violence expressed by the prophets. Dr. Crossan defines non-violence as resistance to evil something Jewish and Christian authors communicated in their writings and has inspired multiple peaceful movements throughout history.Support the show

In this week’s show we discuss the new Alien film Alien Covenant with Joe Balog , our expert in Roman Catholic demonology. The new prequels Prometheus and Alien Covenant are under attack on Youtube as demonic and proof that the film industry is made up of Satanists who are sharing their occult beliefs through movies. We discuss the impact of film on religious folks, how one YouTube documentary makes it seem that the devil is taking over the film industry, and how this type of theology turns religion into a dungeons and dragons type of battle. In Alien Covenant and Prometheus, Ridley Scott expands the Alien mythology and address greater questions such as the Panspermia hypothesis (the idea that ancient aliens brought about human life); as well man’s relationship with nature, creation destroying it’s creator and biological warfare. We also discuss the design of the Alien creature or xenomorph which comes from HR Geiger artistic creations. These designs are heavily criticized by these YouTube Christian reviewers who don’t seem to be familiar with the psychology behind these dark artistic works.Support the show

In this week’s show our guest is Sharon Harris, a native of Dallas, TX. Ms. Harris had a first hand experience with homelessness and shares insights from that situation. She is currently an entrepreneur who runs two companies “My Hebrew Roots” and the affiliate project “Trendy Designs.” We discuss how many Americans are a paycheck away from loosing their home environment and how the “Bootstraps Mentality” spoused by many Americans adds to the problem of homelessness.According to an article on Houston Press there is a plan to make tent cities illegal in Houston. “Up for debate at City Council next week, the “anti-encampment ordinance” would criminalize the “unpermitted use of fabric, metal, cardboard, or other materials as a tent or other temporary structure for human habitation,” the use of any heating device, and the “accumulation of personal property that would not fit in a container three feet high, three feet wide, and three feet deep.” Put simply, it would criminalize being homeless on the streets without a permit, punishable with a fine of up to $500 — and possibly resulting in warrants being issued for homeless people’s arrests for failure to pay those fines or appear in court.” (The City’s Questionable Ordinance That Criminalizes Sleeping in Tents and Boxes, Meagan Flynn, WEDNESDAY, APRIL 5, 2017)Support the show

In this week’s show our guest is Sam Granger. Our topic is the history, liturgy and modern trends of Eastern Orthodox Christianity. We discuss their leadership structure, apostolic succession, their different communities and mysticism. Our discussion focused on the liturgical aspect of Eastern Orthodoxy which incorporate” Ancient Synagogal” practices such as priestly rites, hymns and blessings. The structure of the liturgy involves “Old Testament” concepts such as morning and evening prayer, them calling churches temples, having a “Holy of Holies,” and a curtain that separates the congregants from the priests. They also have processions and perform sacrifices with the bread and wine. It is believed that these Greco-Semitic aspects of their rite are derived from the original founders, who according to tradition, were Peter and Paul.We also discussed mysticism including a fusion with God which can take place in a Christian’s life known as “Theosis.” This mystery of becoming God,” just as God became man” is something out of the ordinary for Western Christians but fascinating to learn about.Theosis or Deification is based on their belief in the redemptive work of the Christ. This process is meant for faithful Christians, who exercise the sacraments, to reach complete purity and ultimate redemption.Theosis is influenced by texts such as The Triads of Gregory Palamas and Summa Theologea by Saint Thomas Aquinas. This idea addresses the incarnation of Christ, as it is believed by traditional Christians that he shares his divinity with the rest of humanity, allowing them to finally reach their full potential. By attaining not only the semblance of God, the redeem become like God, as the Genesis account speaks of humans not only sharing his image, but his likeness. They also believe that sainthood can be achieved by individuals as they grow spiritually. Theosis comes about by uniting with the nature of God through the sacraments, as revealed in the gospels and expounded by Christian tradition. This union is believed to culminate in the resurrection and reward of eternal life in heaven.Support the show
