Welcome to Stories Come to Life. I am your host, Kathryn Lopez Luker. Here is the first part of Nancy Drew’s second mysterious adventure, The Hidden Staircase! When this book was originally published in 1930 it had 25 chapters and included a lot of interesting description and plot details that were later deleted or changed. I prefer the original words, so that is what I’ve recorded for you here. 

Nancy Drew recalls with fondness the excitement she had while she was solving her first case and longs for a new adventure. Just as she is resigning herself to a quieter life, a sharp ring at the doorbell reveals a very rude and disconcerting visitor! It is Nathan Gombet, an unpleasant man who insists that Nancy’s father, Carson Drew, owes him a lot of money. Not only that, but this man seems unstable enough to do some desperate act.
