In today's image, we see the star forming region known as the Eagle Nebula. In the center of this, we see a newly formed cluster of stars. These stars are in the process of eating away at the remaining material which continues to try to form stars. Eventually, the gas and dust will be pushed away leaving behind only the star cluster.

In today's image, we see an astronaut floating free in space. The astronaut is actually about 100 meters away from the cargo bay of the space shuttle at this point, controlling their motion through the use of jets of nitrogen gas which allows them to move freely without a tether line as had been used in previous spacewalks.

In today's image, we see meteors from the Eta Aquarid meteor shower from a year ago. While this year's shower was hampered by the bright light of a full moon, last year's allowed for observation of many of these tiny pieces of Halley's Comet which impacted the atmosphere.

In today's image, we see the Helix Nebula, an example of a planetary nebula. A planetary nebula is the end state of a star much like our own Sun. The outer layers are expelled out into space while the core compacts down to an extremely dense white dwarf.
