The wheeling and dealing continues in Canberra today, as the government works to push through its environmental laws by the end of this week.

Support from the Coalition or the Greens is needed in the Senate, and native forest logging has become one of the key sticking points.

But one of Australia's most respected forest scientists has said it shouldn't be up for debate at all.
