Ray Perales knows the difficulties of our Native Youth that turn to gang life - he himself was once a gang member.
But Perales (Arapaho and Hisanic) turned his life around to become a champion helping Native youth & the communities affected by gang violence. -- He has observed, studied & written about the subject of Native Youth gangs since the early 1990s, where as a Police Officer on the Fort Peck Indian Reservation he first found indications of gang involvement. His Law Enforcement & Criminal Justice experience now spans over 22 years including a stint as the Deputy Public Safety Director for the Fort Peck Assiniboine and Sioux Tribes.
Tonight we will also welcome "J" a gang member on one of the poorest reservations in Indian Country - he offers his insights - and what he thinks about any solutions to gang problems.
