It was the Padres' first series win over the Nationals since May 2011 and it left the Nationals 58-41 overall on the year as they head out on the road for a two-game set with the Cleveland Indians.

Max Scherzer struck out 10 batters in seven innings of work, giving up just two runs on a two-run home run in the second, but the Washington Nationals and San Diego Padres were tied at 2-2 in the ninth when Stephen Drew hit a walk-off double to win it, 3-2 final. Scott Kazmir gave up just four hits and one earned run in seven innings of work, improving to 6-0 with a 3.62 ERA in his last 12 starts going back to May 14th. It was the Nationals' fourth loss in four games with the Dodgers this season and it dropped them to 56-38 overall.

The Washington Nationals were down to their last out and last strike before Daniel Murphy hit a game-tying, pinch hit homer to tie it up at 1-1 in the ninth. It went to 18 innings in D.C. before Pittsburgh Pirates' outfielder Starling Marte hit a game-winning home run. The Nationals ended up taking two of three from the visiting Pirates, and they finished the series 56-37 after their five-game winning streak was snapped in the series finale with the Bucs.

Washington Nationals' starter Tanner Roark tossed eight scoreless on 110 pitches and the Nats cruised to their ninth straight win over the Pittsburgh Pirates in the nation's capital, 6-0 final tonight in D.C., five straight overall for the Nationals, who improved to twenty games over .500 at 56-36 on the year with one more to play with the Pirates tomorrow afternoon. Shawn Kelley, Oliver Perez, Blake Treinen and Jonathan Papelbon finished the Mets off after Strasburg was done for the day, throwing two scoreless frames to end the game.
