  • Living the Green Life - Witness
Living the green life explores easy, free or insanely cheap ways to live green on a daily basis at home or work.  There are so many ways to decrease your footprint on the earth and save money for little or no cost.   Most of these are not only easy, but fun for the whole family, or workplace.
With everything going on in the news, it is easy to forget that one of the most urgent problems we face today is global climate change, and that we as a society need to find ways to decrease our footprint on the already taxed planet.  As the world’s politicians face new and challenging problems, or the same old ones that they can’t seem to fix, it becomes more incumbent on each and every one of us to take on the challenges of the environmental battle ourselves.
Ray will provide some fun resources and projects to make the planet just a little bit better.  And that’s what it’s all about! Making the planet just a little bit better, each and every one of us, every day.  Even better, spread the word, and get as many people to listen, and join in the effort.  That’s is one of the most powerful things each of us can do, spread the word, and motivate another person, and another.  This is one of the hardest yet most powerful things we can do to improve the planet.  It is easy to make the step to a green world alone, but a grass roots approach of spreading the word and changing others into “Earth muffins” is the best way to help.
(Step one!) If you have any ideas, resources or projects you want to share, we encourage you to call in and share as well.

  • Sabre Tooth Animals-Fine Art of Paleontology
Sabre Tooth Animals will be the topic of discussion on Natures Talk Show Fine Art of Paleontology. Let's find out what exactly are these amazing animals and discuss how they have survived and adapted through the years. Could there possibly been more animals besides the tigers with sabre teeth ? No one can beat Nature when it comes to designing deadly, effective weapons, and some of the sophisticated killing tools of animals simply defy our imagination. However, one of the most fearsome weapons in Nature is also surprisingly simple. Saberteeth are such an effective weapon that they have evolved many times during the History of life, in completely different groups of animals.

  • Mangroves of Australia - Biotopes
Mangroves of Australia - Biotopes on Natures Talk Shows Biotopes Series will be the topic of discussion.
Mangroves are vascular plants, that is they have a well-developed system of conducting tissue to transport water, mineral salts and sugars. They are found in the intertidal zone where they are flooded by tides. Mangroves are plants that live between the sea and the land, where they are flooded by tides. This is called the intertidal zone. The word 'mangrove' is given to either an individual species or to a group of unrelated plants, living in areas that are flooded by tides.
They grow as trees up to medium height and shrubs in saline (pure seawater (3% to 4%), to water concentrated by evaporation to over twice the salinity of ocean seawater (up to 9%). They grow in the tropics and subtropics – mainly between latitudes 25°N and 25°S in sheltered areas like estuaries, river banks and marine shorelines. They may also grow in protected temperate coastal areas.
Australia has around 980,000 hectares of mangrove forests, which is less than 1% of Australia’s total forest cover.
They grow in the soft mud between the half tide and the high tide mark. Part of the root system (pneumatophores) are always above the ground level and are able to take in oxygen during low tide as the soil they grow in does not contain any dissolved oxygen.
They use salt water as a source of water for transpiration and exclude most of the salt from that water and excrete or store excess salt..

  • Paradoxides - Species Profile
Paradoxides - Species Profile will be the topic of discussion on Natures Talk Shows Fine Art of Paleontology. Paradoxides is a large trilobite close to half a meter (one and a half feet) long. There are many species and subspecies of this genus and they have been collected from the Czech Republic, Scandinavia, Wales, Spain, Morocco, Newfoundland, New Brunswick, Maine and Massachusetts. Geologists use these species to correlate rock formations from these different areas. This strange geographic distribution and the remarkable similarities of some trilobites from North America and Europe puzzled paleontologists.During the Cambrian Period, 510 million years ago, before there were any lobsters these trilobites crawled along the seafloor, but not off the coast of North America or Europe. They lived in the shallow waters off the coast of a small continent that no longer exists called Avalonia by geologists.

  • Piranahs - Monsters of Nature
Piranahs - Monsters of Nature will be the topic on tonight's Natures Talk Show Monsters of Nature. A piranha or piraña is a member of family Characidae in order Characiformes, an omnivorous freshwater fish that inhabits South American rivers. In Venezuela, they are called caribes. From the moment tiny baby piranhas hatch from their microscopic eggs, they come into the world armed and dangerous. Baby piranha will feast on tiny crustaceans, fruits, seeds, and aquatic plants. Once they reach about 1.5 inches in length they begin feeding on the fins and flesh of other fish that wander too closely. As they grow larger they begin to venture out in groups (shoals) of about 20 fish where they use a variety of hunting strategies to kill and eat their prey. Heck, they don't kill their prey first, they just start eating the victim alive - that's what makes them so ferocious. Adult piranha have been known to eat their own babies.Piranhas are world-famous for their razor-sharp teeth. Native peoples of South America will catch the piranha and use their teeth to make tools and weapons. Even the fisherman who catch these vicious little predators have to be careful when the fish is out of water. A single piranha out of water is still dangerous enough to take off the flesh, or the odd toe, from an unwary fisherman.

  • Stegasaurus - Species Profile
Stegasaurus - Species Profile will be the topic of discussion on Natures Talk Shows Fine Art of Psleontology. Stegosaurus is a genus of armored bony dinosaur. They lived during the Late Jurassic period, some 155 to 150 million years ago in what is now western North America. It was about the size of a bus and carried around two rows of bony plates along its back that made it appear even bigger.Stegosaurus has a reputation for having a small brain and one of the lowest-brain-to-body ratios among dinosaurs. "The brain of Stegosauruswas long thought to be the size of a walnut," said armored dinosaur expert Kenneth Carpenter, director of the USU Eastern Prehistoric Museum in Utah.
