Human papillomavirus, or HPV, is the most common sexually transmitted infection in the United States. It is estimated that about 80 million people in the U.S. are currently infected with HPV, and nearly half of these infections occur in teens and young adults aged 15 to 24. Each year, approximately 13 million new infections occur in the U.S.

HPV is linked to several types of cancers, including cervical, anal, vulvar, vaginal, penile, and oropharyngeal cancers. In fact, almost all cervical cancer cases are caused by HPV.
