Dunedin eye doctor Hong Sheng Chiong says he gleaned some useful tips on building a start-up while having lunch with Steve Wozniak at the Apple co-founder’s favourite Chinese restaurant in Silicon Valley this week.

Dr Hong, the co-founder of Kiwi startup oDocs Eyecare, scored the meeting as part of his prize for being the 2016 Best Social Impact Business winner at the Talent Unleashed Awards last year which Wozniak helped judge. He says Mr Wozniak has been a regular diner at the restaurant for decades, since the early days of Apple.

ChargeNet NZ has announced a forthcoming change to its DC fast charging network, with Type 1 Combined Charging System (CCS) plugs to be replaced by Type 2 CCS plugs.

Authorised financial advisers are taking on fewer clients but ones who have more money, a Financial Markets Authority review of the sector shows. Its annual report on authorised financial advisers (AFAs) – who are regulated by the FMA and provide a more detailed service than registered financial advisers – show there are about 1800 AFAs in New Zealand, steady on 2015 figures.

The Keystone Pipeline has been given a green light, achieving a Trump campaign promise to boost job creation. The White House says “despite complying with every requirement and study, including relocating the route, the Keystone XL pipeline faced eight years of obstruction.” A remaining hurdle comes from regulatory agency TransCanada, which has asked the Nebraska Public Service Commission to approve the pipeline's route through the state.
