Four Steps in Dealing with Suffering for Righteousness:

1. Maintain the cause of your suffering: righteousness (13-17)

2. Know the purpose of Christ’s suffering: reconciliation (18)

3. Follow the example of Noah’s suffering: proclamation (19-20)

4. Anticipate the outcome of Christ’s suffering: salvation (21-22)

LITERAL TRANSLATION for 1 Peter 1:18-22

18  For Christ also suffered for sins once and for all, a righteous one on behalf of the unrighteous ones, in order that He may bring you to God, having died in the flesh, but on the other hand having been made alive in the spirit,

19 in that state, He also had gone and proclaimed to the spirits now in prison,

20 who were once disobedient when the patience of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was being built, in which a few, that is eight persons, were saved through water,

21 which also symbolizes baptism that now saves you, not the removal of dirt from the flesh, but the appeal to God for a good conscience through the resurrection of Jesus Christ,

22 who had gone into heaven and is now at the right hand of God, having angels, authorities, and powers subjected to Him.
