Holy Living in a Hostile World - Part 1 (2:11-12)
“11 Beloved, I urge you as foreigners and strangers to abstain from fleshly lusts, which wage war against the soul. 12 Keep your behavior excellent among the Gentiles, so that in the thing in which they slander you as evildoers, they may because of your good deeds, as they observe them, glorify God on the day of visitation.” [NASB]
Main Point in v11-12: Live excellently among all unbelievers.
How to Live Excellently Among all Unbelievers
By remembering your true citizenship (v11a) (this world is not your final destination)
By abstaining from your sinful desires (v11b)
By keeping your behavior morally good (v12a)
“Good” can also be translated as excellent, honorable, lovely, or winsome
What is good behavior? Go to the Fruits of the Spirit in Galatians 5:22-26! Also go to Colossians 4:5, Matt 5:13-16, and 2 Peter 1:5-8
4. By influencing others to saving faith (v12b)
Ask a friend or classmate if your life displays Jesus Christ
Read Galatians 5:22-26, Colossians 4:5, 2 Peter 1:5-8, and Matt 5:13-16
1 Peter 2:11-3:12 a few times before next Sunday
