No great organization will succeed without a CRM. A CRM stand for a customer relationship management. The CRM is a tool to help the organization interact with clients from the state of a prospect to a customer. For those that have been in some sort of sales organization, this would be your pipeline management tool.

If you have no idea about what I'm talking about, the CRM is there to assist and guide you. For any entrepreneur and/or founder, you need a active and engaging Rolodex. I want you to think of it as one of the pocket multi tools (ie- that similar to a Gerber or Leatherman) when you go on a camping trip. Basically, it's a 3-in-1 layered system.

I wasn't able to watch all of the Olympics this year like I wanted. My goal was to watch the opening ceremonies, some of my favorite events and the closing ceremonies. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to do neither or I should say not as much as I'd like to. As a proud American, I still watched when I could and cheered them on from my family room TV or mobile device while on the go. While watching what I could of the olympics, I also realized these men and women were no different than me in my pursuit of social entrepreneurship.

As I watched the Rio Olympics of 2016, I found many similarities with these Olympic athletes in comparison to Social Entrepreneurs. First of all, I am not saying I am a Olympic athlete. Secondly, my focus is on their work ethic and not on the sport. Hence, my 5 takeaways of Rio.

When I see a meeting scheduled for an organization, I wonder what type of meeting will it be. Nonprofits are good at scheduling meetings and not getting anywhere. And then committees are created for more meeting times. This is a very painful moment when there aren't true takeaways and action items being done in these meetings.

I even think that about my own board meetings. Do my board members feel in pain because it's a meeting that can truly be done via email? As I still learn how to make my meetings more effective and productive, I have learned to be more responsive and respectful of their time. But there isn't a "Nonprofit Boards of Do's and Don'ts" at the local Barnes and Noble.

Creating and Maintaining Healthy Successful Relationships

This topic has been on my mind and heart for awhile. For the last couple of months, maintaining relationships have been a serious priority for me. Maybe because I had my 20 year high school reunion. It could also be that I value them more as I age too. Bottom line, I do know that relationships are super important.

For social entrepreneurs and community leaders, it's crucially vital to understand and embrace this concept. You won't get very far if not. Good people are extremely hard to find. Great people are a rarity. Therefore, once you've found a great contact, create and maintain the relationship to be healthy and successful for as long as you can.

In the podcast, I go deeper into understanding these concepts. The "Relationship Non-Negotiable's" are simple truths. Without these truths, you won't build a healthy or successful relationship.

Through my novice social entrepreneur memories, I misconstrued nonprofit language and terms for a long time. They don't operate in isolation. They're posed in a question. The asker is looking for something specific.

1. What's your cause? - I always interpreted this as your organization. You thought so too? That's partly right. There's one tiny thing. Yep, listen to the podcast.
2. Do you have financial reports? - my interpretation was a P&L (aka, profit and loss), or a donor report. Those are financial outputs any financial system can print out. Listen in to SEwNAW.
3. Is the money for capacity building? - initially my thoughts this meaning was building my community center. Boy, was I wrong with this one. Than I thought it was about operations. No sir. No ma'am. The explanation is better in audio.  (haha, now I'm smiling because this is getting funny)
4. Are you a grassroots organization? - I'm saving this buzzword for last. It's a critical misnomer. This term is tossed around way too much.

With technology at your fingertips, do your best to understand the language. Doesn't matter if you're in the middle networking or talking with a grantor, ask questions to ensure you're clear. Clarity is key.
