The Bible story of David defeating Goliath is one being told every week. Taught in different languages. Being used in different religions. Spoken in different countries. In case if you haven't heard it, the moral of the story is to use what you have and believe.

In David's case, he was the little guy with no specialized weapons or skills. He tended to sheep. His was small and short. David was younger in comparisons to his brothers who served in the military. Yet, he killed the giant Goliath with a slingshot.

The story resonates with many of us.

I'm happy to come back again and talk about two topics dear and near to my heart. Technology and nonprofits. At one time, technology wasn't the solution to problems. Now, technology is the answer to almost all problems.

Keeping this topic simple, let's focus on the inability for older nonprofits to move the dial on serious issues. And no, I'm not throwing organizations under busses. It's not about pointing fingers. The problem is real for organizations keeping up with everyday evolution called disruptive technology.

Disruptive technology hits nonprofits hard in fundraising, leadership and scaling efforts. When you listen to the podcast, you'll see how I use Google and Uber. With these two technology disrupters, they're organizations provide great resources. The organization stays efficient and more productive.

The time has now come to share our DIY Helping Homeless Project with the world. After a year and several of our own interactions, we know homelessness isn't to be fixed by government. Also, nonprofits aren't able to complete this task on their own either. The job of resolving homelessness will be on the community. Hence, the DIY Helping Homeless Podcast.

We need your help. DIY stands for Do-It-Yourself. Our company's philanthropy focuses on a major piece our own charity cannot address, but directly impacts our contribution to them, their home.

Dream Big's focus on youth and families is a big deal to us. We love to help the families in our community. As we go in the schools and make a difference, the significance of our impact doesn't matter if they don't have a home to do the following:

• complete homework we assigned
• eat a balanced meal
• read the book we gave them
• access the internet
• gain confidence from assigned exercises

After hearing different information from various sources, I was tired of seeing the problem grow. A year prior, I was part of a committee to help youth with these conditions and it seemed to fizzle away. None of the goals appeared to be accomplished. Unfortunately, the group's desired results weren't achieved. The group had to pivot.

There's nothing like drinking a glass of water when you dehydrated. The ice cold water is refreshing. It immediately quenches your thirst. That's how I felt with The 5 Life Stages of Nonprofit Organizations.

This book gave me that sensation. My desire was fulfilled. Someone actually understood what I was going through. Thank heavens. A big thank you to Judith Sharken Simon, along with the Amherst H. Wilder Foundation. They did a phenomenal job organizing the book.

This tool is every entrepreneur and social entrepreneur's solution if they can master it. This is their blueprint for organizing thoughts into plans. Those plans turn into actions. Ultimately, allows the visionary to focus on the details using a six sigma format.

Six Sigma is a disciplined method that eliminates the defects in a product or service before it even hits the market. As a big dreaming Pisces, this gives me the needed infrastructure to house my dreams. My ability to dream big, set goals and meet them through the data-driven six sigma method is DMAIC.

These podcasts are getting more and more intense for me. I'm banging my desk. The papers are being rattled and shuffled. My apologies. I'm just excited! To find others with that share the same passion makes my heart sing; but to also share this information with you means that you won't have my same mistakes.

So "Why Nonprofits Must Evolve" is both a statement and question. As nonprofits, we must adapt and overcome. For outsiders, nonprofits are no longer the run-of-the-mill organization. Nonprofits cannot become extinct. Society cannot afford that travesty.

In this podcast, I'll give you the perspective as social entrepreneur and founder. As you'll hear the emotion, understand that's from my pain learning from an antiquated industry. However, I love this broken industry. My pain is now your gain.

I’m sure you’ve heard the saying, “Grants are free money.” Well, that’s false. Grants are not free. They’re very expensive in time and resources. It doesn’t matter if it’s a federal, state, county, or even a simple PTO (aka, Parent Teacher Organization) grant. All grants have costs, structure, and a formula.

For an example, I will use one foundation that I believe embodies an ideal funder. Oregon based organization, Meyer Memorial Trust (aka, MMT), has been great to us. In addition, they have a great website with exemplary resources.

With a leaping high five, I've completed my first online interview. It may have had some technical issues, but the content is rich. Our podcast show is truly for any business professional, but specifically designed for the social entrepreneur.

Since our world is changing, we as nonprofits and social entrepreneurs need to understand how to get in front of our client base. Texting is the new way to communicate, not emails. Search engines are replacing the fat directory book of Yellow Pages. Social media platforms are now mediums to remain in connection. Smartphones are used to do homework, watch entertainment shows, and create business documents.  As a social entrepreneur for 10+ years, I've had to redefine traditional vs. modern ways of communicating.
