The normal Christian experience is to pulled in two directions: although controlled by the Spirit, we are influenced by our old nature, the flesh/sinful nature. Jesus' cross and resurrection remind us of God's love and plan for us.

the law is a light, not a broom. it is holy righteous and good. but for those who have died with Christ, we live by the spirit as we stand in grace. law does not condemn us, only shows us more of the character of the God whose spirit is in us.

Those who follow Christ do so by the grace of God. And Christians who were Jews even tell the gospel to those who are not. This is our model for mission: we tell everyone about Jesus.

We're all slaves; naturally to sin (and death), but by grace, to righteousness (and eternal life).

So stop sinning, and remember grace.

Why not sin? With his first command in the book of romans, Paul urges those who have been saved by grace, not law, to consider themselves so closely identified with Christ, that as he died to sin and rose to new life, we too die to sin and live the new life He brings.
