The Importance of Self Care That Actually Works
In this episode of the Needy Podcast, I return after a year-long hiatus to discuss the essence of self-care that truly supports individual needs. I talk about my upcoming free workshop titled 'Self Care That Actually Works' scheduled for September 25th.
I differentiate my approach to self-care from the prescriptive methods often sold online, emphasizing the need for responsive and present self-care practices. I share my personal journey of developing a self-care routine that helps me meet life's demands in a sustainable way, such as waking up early to watch the sunrise and engaging in varied physical activities.
The discussion highlights the importance of creating routines that are adaptable to one's current emotional and physical state, ultimately aiming to provide a framework for showing up fully and compassionately for oneself.

How can we let stories from the past transform our relationship to the present?
In this episode, I’m joined by Ronna Detrick for a thoughtful and moving conversation about the power of reclaiming sacred stories. We discuss her passion for writing, reinterpreting the Bible, and reconnecting with historical stories in a more meaningful and honest way.
Ronna Detrick (she/her) left the church and its dogma nearly twenty years ago but took the stories of women with her. She has combined her love of writing with a diverse and winding career that has included coaching, spiritual direction, professional development training, corporate leadership, and entrepreneurship. Is it possible to have a relationship with our children that is mutually respectful? How do we push against societal messages saying that being a parent means having no needs?
In today’s episode, Jen Lumanlan, the founder of "Your Parenting Mojo," is here to share her wisdom on meeting our needs and those of our children. Together, we delve into the delicate balance between safety and autonomy as parents, exploring how to set boundaries that respect our own needs while honoring our children's independence.
Jen is a researcher, parenting coach, and author. After becoming a parent, she went back to school for a masters in education and psychology focusing on child development to better understand why parents and children face the challenges they do. Her podcast (named the best research-based parenting podcast by LifeHacker) and new book, “Parenting Beyond Power” discuss the societal influences that make parenting hard and why we shouldn’t see problems as individual failings.

It can be difficult to speak up for ourselves in relationships, especially when we've experienced heartache or lost friends in the past. But, as you’ll hear from today’s guest Katherine Sleadd, recognizing our needs and communicating them honestly can lead to deeper connections, even in the midst of conflict.
Katherine is a trauma informed coach, currently pursuing her masters in counseling psychology. She is the author of How to Be a Bad Friend: The Hidden Life of Failed Relationships, a book all about friendship and friend breakups. Her work is focused on growing people’s capacity to understand and reconnect with their desire, like you would an old friend.
