We caught up with him to talk about his very storied career in jazz .. From work on his latest 2020 collaboration with the Freedom Affair on the CD Freedom is Love to being the lead trumpeter for the reverend Al Green .. After a few seasons touring, he relocated to Kansas City and began performing in local jazz and blues venues while on break from tours .. These days he is recognized as one of Kansas City's most versatile trumpeters and performs with several local and national artists.  Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, many musicians have suffered financial loss from show cancellations and he opens up about this strange time .. and hope for the future .. We talked in the Fall of 2020 during the worldwide COVID-19 pandemic about quite a bit .. Like his latest 2019 CD Big Hush .. He became involved with music after being ‘reborn’, after a near death experience. He was 14. It involved a Football ‘Special’ Train, hundreds of inebriated Glasgow Rangers fans, a fire hammer and axe, 2 near fatalities, him jumping from a train traveling at 70 mph, and several broken limbs. It was then that he decided that this was the wrong game for him, and instead followed his other passion, which was the ‘Northern Soul’ music scene. Then it became jazz .. and now a full career. We caught up with her from her New York home on December 3, 2020 to talk life during this strange COVID-19 world of ours .. She was in Kansas City back in mid-March with Deborah Brown promoting her book on her legendary late husband Dexter Gordon called Sophisticated Giant .. I saw her speak at the Johnson County Community College on March 12 and she autographed her copy of the book with that date on it .. it would be the last thing this jazz host would do in the old world of ours that is long gone and prove to be the most important autograph I would ever fetch .. Her story of getting home, the recovery, how Dexter would have done during this quarantine and much more was delved into .. She’s a jazz gem .. So, enjoy ..
