Born in Montreal, he studied guitar and improvisation in New York City before moving to Berlin, where he spent a decade as a sideman to big and small names of the European music world. After re-locating in Toronto, he worked as a studio and live musician and dove into blues, country and music tech. This interest in the intersection of art and technology has led to recent recordings exploring common ground between composition, electronica and various global music traditions. “DARN, THAT BAND!” is the first studio recording of his new project. We caught up with this trio to talk about their latest 2024 release called On Twin Talk Live. It’s a release that blurs the boundaries between near-telepathic collective improvisation and highly composed songs - out now on CD, Digital and Vinyl. It is the fourth album for this long-running band formed back in 2012. They have steadily drifted from the conventions of the saxophone trio. This trio strives to make their music elastic, spontaneous, and open, embracing new inspirations without stifling the improvisational heart of their work. Dig this interview.
